The Beloit City Council held their regular meeting last night. During the time allowed for comments by the Councilors, there was agreement that the city crews did a commendable job of getting right to work when the storm was over. They also extended a “Thank You” to the County for opening the Landfill so that storm debris could be hauled to the landfill. There was also a general feeling that everyone attacked the cleanup with a sense of community.

The Council adopted ordinance 2153 dealing with electrical extensions in town and ordinance 2154 relating to temporary electrical services.

Next the Council adopted Resolution 2014-16 pertaining to Amended Fee Resolution. This sets the fee for temporary electrical service within the city limits at one hundred dollars plus the cost of the electricity. Temporary service provided outside the city limits is two hundred dollars plus the cost of electricity.

In formal actions, Councilor Matte Otte was named as the voting delegate to attend the Kansas League of Municipalities Conference. Glen Rodden was named as the Alternate Delegate.

A revised City Credit Card policy was adopted.

A discussion relating to Special Event licensing was next for the Councilors. It is unlawful to discharge fireworks within the city limits of Beloit except for the Fourth of July celebrations. It has become a tradition to set off a few fireworks at the end of a game in which Beloit High has won. The Special Event license has been developed to smooth out the wrinkles in the legality of post game fireworks. It was decided to collaborate with the U.S.D. 273 administration before finalizing the licensing.

In an attempt to achieve the correct number of people on the Planning Commission the Council appointed Cheryl Renter and Greg Drum to the Commission. Both Renter and Drum live outside the city limits but within the three mile zone.

At that point the business meeting was adjourned and the work session began.

City Manager Glenn Rodden told the Council that the insurance adjuster team will be in Beloit on Wednesday or Thursday to being evaluate damage to city property. Various areas of the city were noted as being problematic with flooding issues.

Rodden announced that the Planning Commission’s next meeting will be on September ninth. The meeting will take place in the large meeting room in the basement of the Municipal Building.

Rolling Hills Electrical Cooperative will be buying between twenty and forty acres for a warehouse and facilities for their operation. Talks will be ongoing to work out all the details.

All the business being completed, the Work Session was adjourned.
