MON SEPT 22 MITCHELL COUNTY HOSPITAL HEALTH SYSTEMS BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

In their regular monthly meeting last night, the Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Board of Trustees had a busy agenda.  Last's night's meeting hosted new business as well as old with a report from the Foundation as well.

In new business, the Board approved a proposal to purchase the ProVation Order Set software.  This software uses the Up To Date system, of which the hospital's physicians are already familiar, and has been researched and found to be the best choice in order set software for the Hospital.  The Board also approved the $6,240 purchase of three news epidural pumps and lock boxes for the Hospital.  In addition to those approvals, a change was made to the pre-hiring verification policy and procedure in which new hires will be given a background check.  Employees will also be given a new choice for their retirement investment options as the Board approved the use of managed retirement portfolios that will give employees the option of choosing retirement funds that are managed by an outside firm based on an assessment that takes into account their investment needs and comfort level.  The Board also discussed hail damage to the Hospital's roof during the recent hail storm and was updated on the status of their insurance settlement and the current estimate for repairs.  They hoped to complete repairs before winter as a sizable amount of roof damage occurred.  Service awards were also acknowledged for those employees celebrating anniversaries with the Hospital, including Lauren Ludwig in Acute for five years, Loretta Nelson in Social Services for 15 years, and Stefani Waggle in Acute also for 15 years.  The Board extended their congratulations to those employees.

Reports received by the Board last night included the audited financials from fiscal year end March 31, 2014, given by Derrick Hart and John Helms of Wendling, Noe, Nelson, and Johnson.  The firm gave an in depth review of the Hospital's financials and found them to be in order and, for the most part, trending in a positive position for this area and for the state of Kansas.  A report from the Foundation as also given in which there was an update on the Perdue House, which is nearing completion.  Windows and shutters that were able to be salvaged have been refinished and installed, the upstairs bathroom has been plumbed with vanities set and decorating taking place, the kitchen is nearly complete, furniture has been delivered and set, a policy and procedures board has been established, cost analysis has begun for the running of the facility, decor details for the whole house have been planned for the grand opening and open house, and the Holiday Homes tour has asked for the Perdue House to be featured this year as part of the December 19th feature homes tour.  The 2014 Foundation golf tournament was a success and was enjoyed by over 75 golfers and volunteers.  Donations toward the Perdue House were received last month that will help the completion of that process, and the process for the culmination of the Capital Campaign Donor Wall have begun.  Director Stephanie Simmons has also been working on with the Kansas Health Foundation on a one-year annual report that has resulted in the extension of a $25,000 grant for this and seven other communities in their health initiative.

The meeting was finished with the financial committee report, statistics, and an executive session to discuss medical staff credentials.
