The Beloit community is invited to celebrate the life of Keller King and give blood on July 17.Keller is a happy little boy with a sweet tooth who enjoys trucks, sports and wrestling with his brother. But, this 18-month-old is also a blood recipient.

On Feb. 14, Keller was diagnosed with a Stage 1 Wilms Tumor on his left kidney. Before surgeons could operate to remove the tumor, Keller needed a blood transfusion. Following the transfusion, doctors successfully removed the tumor and his left kidney. Keller began chemotherapy a few days later and recently completed treatment.

"Keller has become a pro at chemo treatments and rarely sheds a tear during them," said Jerica King, Keller's mother. "Instead, he likes to spend his energy flirting with his nurses. We are so grateful that he continues to do well and are indebted to those who gave the blood that Keller received."

The blood drive in Keller King's honor comes at an important time for the Red Cross. Vacations and summer activities often result in a decline in blood donations during the summer. Donors of all blood types are needed to ensure a sufficient blood supply this summer, especially O positive, O negative, A negative and B negative.
