The Mitchell County Commissioners met Monday, July 20, 2015 for their weekly business meeting. They faced a light agenda and dispatched with the business in a workmanlike fashion. All Commissioners were present. Kathy File sat in for County Clerk, Chris Treaster.

Larry Emerson, Public Works Superintendent, reported that the high winds from the storm Saturday night caused damage to signs at the dam. Some were blown over and others were twisted. His crews are assessing the damage and making the necessary repairs.

Emerson told the Commissioners that the new mower tractor is in at Carricos. He expects to be putting it to work right away.

The “Snooper” truck reported to do detailed inspections of the Causeway and Fisherman’s Bridges He did not know if they were able to complete the inspections but will check on what they were able to get done.

The railroad crossing work has been completed west of Scottsville. The crossing replacement took three days longer than planned. Road crews removed the barricades Monday morning and were checking what might need done to make sure the approaches to the crossing were as smooth as possible

The State bridge inspectors have identified two bridges in the Jerry Winkel neighborhood that did not pass inspection and will need reinforcing. The County will have a given amount of time to make necessary repairs to the bridges so that they will pass inspection or be closed.

Carol Miller, executive director of the Court Appointed Special Advocate program addressed the Commissioners with her budget request for the upcoming year. Miller is requesting the same amount of dollars for the upcoming year as she requested this current year, $12,000.

During the past year 12 children from Mitchell County were served the CASA volunteers. Eight of these children were served in the CASA program and 4 received services from the Child Advocacy Center.

The team includes a pediatric trauma nurse from Salina, law enforcement personnel, the county attorney, a Pawnee mental health worker, and a local therapist specifically train in childhood trauma.
