Alberta Gutscher, Age 101

Alberta Doris Gutscher, the daughter of Earl and Anna (Hanson) Epley, was born on January 17, 1914 on a farm near Nora, Nebraska. She passed away on August 17, 2015 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska; at the age of 101 years, and 7 months.

Alberta attended rural school District 25 near Nora and graduated as Valedictorian from Nora High School. She received her teaching certificate from Hastings College, teaching two years in a country school which included all 8 grades.

On May 3, 1934, Alberta was united in marriage to Claud Gutscher a Burr Oak native in Mankato, Kansas. Alberta and Claud lived on his father's farm west of Burr Oak, Kansas during the depression; this is where their daughter Zelma was born in 1935. In November of 1936 they moved to Albany, Oregon for a short time, moving back to farm to take care of Claud's parents. Arlena was born in 1938. They purchased their own farm in 1941, but due to his health they moved to Superior where Lennie what born in 1949, Alberta worked in a grocery store and clerked livestock auctions. In 1951 they moved back to Burr Oak to again farm and bought the Mobile Station. Alberta started working at the school in the kitchen, retiring as head cook in 1983.

Her hobby was collecting dishes. She enjoyed her bible study group and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Museum Board member, and past Treasure of the local Council on Aging. Yearly she would drive to Kansas City to visit her daughters and fly to Washington to visit Lennie.

In February of 2006, Alberta entered the Good Samaritan Society System and resided there until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claud on April 29, 1990; brother, Alvin and sister, Verna Scott and grandson Larry Jensen.

She is survived by her daughters Zelma Jensen and husband Orval of Gower, Missouri and Arlena Michael and husband David of Independence, Missouri and son Lennie Gutscher of Tenino, Washington; six grandchildren Maria and husband Gary, Sondra and husband Dennis, Allan and wife Sally, Micky and husband Jim, Vinson and wife Tracy, Tamara and husband Bob and granddaughter-in-law Tracey; 15 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren and sister-in-law Edna Epley of Superior, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
