Monday Aug 24 Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Board Of Trustees Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems Board of Trustees took place last night.  After approval of the agenda, minutes from July's meeting, and the consent agenda, CFO Eldon Koepke educated the Board on the Critical Access Hospital Cost Report.

During the reporting phase of the meeting, CEO Jeremy Armstrong gave his Administrative Report.  One topic he elaborated on for the Board was the turnover rate at the Hospital and to determine how to achieve better retention rates for their employees.  He reported that 42% of all turnover was within the CNA position and 58% of those CNAs worked at the hospital for less than 18 months.  He said exit interviews could help the Board and the Hospital determine better why so many leave and how to work toward keeping more of them working there.  Mr. Armstrong also announced that the Kansas Hospital Association is recognizing Board Chairman Curt Frasier with one of its Trustee of the Year Awards.  Mr. Frasier will receive this award at next month's Kansas Hospital Association annual banquet.

During the Studer Update, Darren True explained that it was important for nurse rounding to occur once ever hour so patients would have a nurse in their room to check on them every hour.  He also stated that employees would be receiving AIDET Training September 1st from Studer Representative Chad Hunt.  AIDET stands for Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explain, and Thank You, and the A and I portions of the system would be first to be rolled out to patients.  The remaining three attributes will be released over the next two weeks.

In new business, the Board approved the purchase of a pulmonary rehab monitor and fetal heart monitors to replace older units.  The pulmonary rehab monitor will be an electronic one and has been budgeted for.  The cost of this is around $38,000.  The fetal heart monitors will be paid for from several sources in a joint effort to supply them due to the existing monitors being several years old and in need of replacement.

The Board finished it's meeting with an executive session to discuss medical staff credentials and non-elected personnel.
