TREVIN SPENCER APPEARS FOR ARRAIGNMENT

Trevin Spencer Appears for Arraignment

By Terry Bailey

Trevin Spencer appeared before the Honorable Judge Kim Cudney Wednesday morning in the Courtroom at the Mitchell County Courthouse. His appearance was for his arraignment hearing on charges of first degree murder and aggravated battery relating to the death of Darrell Hill on July 23, 2015.

Spencer accompanied by his attorney Julie Effenback pled not guilty to both charges. The defense, citing an evaluation by Dr. Steffan, told the court they would be presenting a case of not guilty by reason of a lack of mental state.

County attorney Mark Noah stated that because the defense had an evaluation done by their specialist, the prosecution would desire an evaluation be done by a doctor of their choosing.

Judge Cudney asked Noah if the evaluation could be done within 30 days, Noah said, “I hope so but that might be pushing things a little.” Cudney set the next appearance for Spencer to be on April 5 for a status report. Cudney also set Monday June 20th as a trial date should one be needed. Should a trial be necessary, five days would be the expected length for a trial.

Spencer was remanded back into the custody of the Mitchell County Sheriff.
