BELLEVILLE BUFF INVITATIONAL TRACK MEET

The Beloit Trojan track teams opened their 2016 track and field season at the Buff Invitational track meet in Belleville on Thursday, March 31. The nine teams that participated were Concordia, Smoky Valley, Russell, Republic County, Southeast of Saline, Salina-Sacred Heart, Ellsworth, Minneapolis and Beloit. At this meet, teams were able to have unlimited entries in both the field events and the running events. This allowed the teams to give every athlete the opportunity to compete in events which will help them decide who will be competing at the varsity level and who will be competing on the junior varsity this season. This situation also gives the athletes a little variety in their choice of events.

The Trojan boys competed well bringing home a total of 22 medals (9 gold, 8 silver, 5 bronze) and a first place finish with a total of 125.17 points. Republic County was second with 93.75 points and Smoky Valley was third with 89 points.

The gold medal winners for Beloit were Logan Mong in the high jump at 5’10”, the 4X800m relay team of Anthony Nunez, Blaine Burks, Brendon Mason, and Ryan Jackson in 8:53.27, and the 4X100m relay team of Zach Meier, Colin Budke, Ryan Jackson, and Colson Reames in 45.68

The silver medal winners were Hunter Budke in the 110m high hurdles in 16.18 and the 300m hurdles in 44.59, Colson Reames in the 400m dash in 53.55, Colin Budke in the high jump at 5’10”, and the 4X400m relay team of Zach Meier, Anthony Nunez, Brendon Mason and Colson Reames in 3:38.64.

The bronze medal winners were Jace Adams in the 110m high hurdles in 17.19 and the 300m hurdles in 45.42, Logan Mong in the triple jump at 39’2”, Collin Rose in the discus at 126’5”, and Zach Meier in the 400m dash in 54.48.

The fourth place finishers were Anthony Nunez in the 800m run, Camden and Blayne Harris in the pole vault, Blaine Burks in the discus, and Chris Chandler in the javelin.

Fifth place finishers were Colson Reames in the 100m dash, Tristen Brummer in the 800m run, and Anthony Nunez in the 1600m run.

Sixth place finishers were Chance Kopsa in the 3200m run, Colin Budke in the long jump, and Blayne Harris in the triple jump.








The Lady Trojans also competed well bringing home a total of 11 medals (3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze) and brought home the first place trophy with 108.75 points. Smoky Valley was second with 98.5 points and Southeast of Saline was third with 75.25 points.

The gold medalists for Beloit were Sydney Johnson in the discus with a throw of 139’9” and the shot put at 39’3.5”, and Kourtni Hubert in the javelin with a new school record throw of 136’7”.

The silver medal winners were Kourtni Hubert in the shot put at 35’8.5”, Remi Behrends in the high jump at 5’0”, and Ocean Paul in the pole vault at 10’0”.

The bronze medal winners were Remi Behrends in the 200m dash in 28.01 and the triple jump at 31’9”, Trinity Wagner in the 400m dash in 1:08.65, Karissa Winkel in the long jump at 14’11.5”, and Sydney Barrett in the javelin at 113’0”.

Fourth place finishers were Alana Budke in the 200m dash and long jump and Blaise Spangler in the 100m hurdles and the pole vault.

Fifth place finishers were the 4X800m relay team of Erin Kelley, Michaela Pingel, Autumn Vowinckel, and Emma Easter, the 4X400m relay team of Paige Hafliger, Trinity Wagner, Khylie Mihm, and Janica Pearce, Alana Budke in the 100m dash, Paige Hafliger in the 400m dash, and Alexis Budke in the triple jump.

Sixth place finishers were Autumn Vowinckel in the 3200m run, Taryn Post in the high jump, and Shae Johnson in the pole vault.

“Both the boys and girls teams competed very well for the first meet of the season. It's good to see the younger kids step up and follow the leadership of the upperclassmen. They are all great kids who work hard every day and will continue to improve. The success of the teams this year will continue to depend on their development, as well as everyone staying healthy.”

The next varsity action for the Beloit track team will be in Concordia on Friday, April 8.
