Matt Smith will be the Division I West Squad Head Coach. He is the head football coach at South Central High School in Coldwater. He has been the head coach and teaches middle school science for the past 10 years. During the 2014 season the Timberwolves were 8-2, losing to Solomon in the playoffs, 44-46. Smith is also the head track coach for the South Central Middle/High Schools. Coach Smith graduated from Protection High School in 1997, FHSU in 2001 with his Bachelors degree and from Newman in 2007 with his Master's in Educational Administration. Matt and his wife Erica have three children, Reece 9, Cass 8 and Case 4.
Steve Tiernan will be a Division I West Squad Assistant Coach. He graduated from Tipton High School in 1988 and Fort Hays State University in 1993. After graduation, Steve taught and coached at Liberal High School for four years. He then taught and coached at Baileyville B & B High School for nine years. He currently teaches weight training and coaches football and track at Solomon High School. During his 14 years as a head football coach, Steve has an overall record of 139-24. His teams have won three state championship titles and have finished and state runner-ups three times. He has been the Kansas Eight Man Football Association treasurer for the past 11 years. Steve and his wife Stephanie have three children, Jake, Haley, and Tate.
Matt Fowler will be a Division I West Squad Assistant Coach as well. He graduated from Lockwood High School in Lockwood, Missouri in 2003. He attended Sterling College and played football for the Warriors and graduated in 2008. Matt has been the head football coach at Spearville for 7 years with an overall record of 40-30. The Royal Lancers captured the 8 man division I State Championship in 2015. It was the first state title in any boy's sport in school history. Matt also teaches 6-12 physical education and serves as the Athletic Director for both the Junior High and High School. Matt has been married to his wife, Beth for 7 years and they have two children: Timothy 3 and newborn Lydia.
No. 2 - Nick Shiew is a 2016 graduate of Hodgeman County High School. Football statistics and honors include: 2015: SPIAA 1st Team All-League Offensive Line and 2nd Team All League Defensive Line; All District 7 1st Team Offensive Line, All-District 7 Honorable Mention Linebacker. Hodgeman County was 2012 Regional Runner Up, 2013 State Runner-up (undefeated regular season); 2015 Bi-District Runner-Up. Honors and accomplishments in other sports include 2014-15 State Land Judging Champion and Sub-State Runner-Up in Basketball. Nick is a member of the Hodgeman County Youth Group and enjoys working, lifting weights and listening to music. Activities and honors in school include KU Honors Scholar, A Honor Roll, Class President, Scholar's Bowl, FFA, football, basketball, track and power lifting. Nick's parents are Mike and Jennifer Shiew.
No. 3 - Jake Tiernan is a 2016 graduate of Solomon High School. Football statistics and honors include: 3 time All State Quarterback, season and Kansas career holder of best completion percentage, Top 100 Seniors in Kansas, Shrine Bowl Selection, 39-7 career record as starting quarterback, four time All District Quarterback. Jake was a member of the 2013 State Champion team, and the 2014 and 2015 substate runner up with a record of 13-0 in 2013, 10-2 in 2014 and 2015. Honors and accomplishments in other sports include state track participant, 2 time state runner up in K-18 baseball, 2 time all league baseball and 2 time top 10 placer in golf. Jake is a member of CYO and enjoys hunting, fishing and playing golf. Activities and honors in school include FBLA, FCCLA, KAYS, NHS and A-Honor Roll. Jake's parents are Steve and Stephanie Tiernan.
No. 7 - Garrett Brunk is a 2016 graduate of St. Francis High School. Football statistics and honors include: Northwest Kansas League All League Football, Top 100 seniors 2015 (Honorable Mention), Second Team Linebacker, 2013 & 2014; First Team Linebacker, 2015; First Team Split End, 2015. St. Francis was undefeated in the regular season in 2015. Honors and accomplishments in other sports include four year three sport letterman, wrestling captain (2015-2016), Pride Wrestler of the Year Award (2014-2015), State Track Qualifier (2014-2015). Garrett is a 4-H member and president of the club, and is also a member of Community Volunteer Group, youth group, shooting sports, and beef exhibitor and welder. He enjoys hunting and fishing. Activities and honors in school include FFA President, National Honor Society member, All League-All Academic 4 years in football, wrestling and track. Garrett's parents are Eddie and Julie Brunk.
No. 8 - Nathan Stein is a 2016 graduate of Spearville High School. In 2015 Spearville was the State Champions in 8 Man in Division I with an undefeated season. They were Bi-District Champions in 2014 and reached the first round of the playoffs in 2013. Honors and accomplishments in other sports include: 8th place medal, 110 high hurdles, State Track, 2013; 3rd place medal, triple jump, State Track, 2014; 6th place medal, triple jump, State Track, 2015; 4th place, State Basketball, Class 1A-DI, 2013-2014. Nathan is an Altar server at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville and enjoys camping, fishing and jet skiing. Activities and honors in school include NHS member 2015-2016; NHS vice president 2015-2016, STUCO vice president 2015-2016, STUCO treasurer 2014-2015 and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, 2013-2016. Nathan's parents are Vern and Lorie Stein.
No. 10 - Braedan Crites is a 2016 graduate of Central Plains High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 5,364 career passing yards, 100 TDs, 1,564 rushing yards and 39 TDs. He was selected Prep 2 Sophomore of the Year, 2014 All State Quarterback, 1st Team All League and 2015 All State Defensive Back. Central Plains was the 2014 8 Man I State Champion and 3 time District Champions. Braeden was selected 2nd Team League in baseball and basketball. Central Plains was State Runner Up in basketball in 2015. Activities and honors outside school include Fall Festival Volunteer and CYO member. Braedan enjoys eating Chinese food with friends and participating in sports. He is valedictorian of his senior class and a member of National Honor Society. Braedan's parents are Dan and Lisa Crites.
No. 12 - Travis Unruh is a 2016 graduate of Canton-Galva High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 2014: All League 1st Team Quarterback, All-League 2nd Team Defensive Back; 2015: All League 1st Team Defensive Back, Honorable Mention Wide Receiver; 4 year letterman. Travis was a 4 year letterman in basketball and a 3 year letterman in track. Activities in school include Future Business Leaders of America 4 years. Travis' parents are Delton and Denise Unruh.
No. 13 - Michael Ryan is a 2016 graduate of Central Plains High School. No. 20 - Brady Sherraden is a 2016 graduate of Spearville High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 2015: selected 1st Team SPIAA All Team Defense Linebacker; 8 Man Division I Honorable Mention, Defense, Linebacker. In 2012 Spearville was District Runner-up, 2013 Regional Runner-up, 2015 Undefeated Division I State Champion. Honors and accomplishments in other sports include 2015 KEMFA 8 Man Powerlifting State Champion for the 198 lb weight class. Activities and honors outside school include Mentor in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program, Certified Nurse Aide. Brady enjoys reading, weight lifting, playing video games, hunting, fishing and hanging out with friends and family. No. 21 - Dylan Hamilton is a 2016 graduate of Ness City High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 2nd Team All League Linebacker, Honorable Mention All League Quarterback, Honorable Mention All District Quarterback & Linebacker. In 2012 Ness City was State Champions with a 13-0 record and in 2014 they were Sub-State Runner-Up. Dylan is the son of Debbie Hamilton.
No. 22 - Brandon Davis is a 2016 graduate of Spearville High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 2014: 1st Team All-League Running back; 2015: 2nd Team All League Running back, Defensive back; Honorable Mention All State Team-Defensive Back. Spearville was District Champions in 2013, 2014 and 2015, Bi-District Champions in 2014 and 2015, Regional Champions in 2015, Sub-State Champions in 2015 and State Champions in 2015. Brandon placed 5th at 156 lbs in the KEMFA 8 Man Power Lifting competition in 2015. He is a member of his church's Youth Group and enjoys Minecraft, lifting, hanging out with friends, video games, pokemon and Netflix. Brandon has been on the A Honor Roll at school, is a member of the Scholar's Bowl and StuCo Representative. Brandon is the son of Traci Davis.
No. 24 - Luis Rodriguez is a 2016 graduate of Ness City High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: Honorable Mention All State Kicker, All League Second Team Defensive Back, All League Second Team Wide Receiver, All League First Team Kicker. Team achievements include 2012, State Champion, 13-0; 2014, Sub-State Runner-Up. Luis is the son of Roberto and Guadalupe Rodriguez.
No. 32 - Jordan Duvall s a 2016 graduate of Ellinwood High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 2012: Varsity, Honorable Mention All-District OLB; 2013: Player of the week (2 different weeks), Varsity; 2014: State Squat Powerlifting Champion, Varsity; 1st Team All District Runningback and Linebacker, 1st Team All-League Runningback and Linebacker, Honorable Mention All State Linebacker Topeka Capital; 2015: Varsity, 1st Team All-District Runningback and Linebacker and Punter, 1st Team All-League Runningback and Linebacker, 1st Team All-State Linebacker and Honorable Mention All-State Runningback Wichita Eagle, Honorable Mention All-State Runningback Topeka Capital Journal, invited to play 8-Man D1 All-Star Game, and received nomination to play in the Shrine Bowl. No. 33 - Bryson Wesley is a 2016 graduate of Decatur Community High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 2,739 yards rushing, 7.4 average rushing yard, 72.1 yards per game, 48 rushing TD's, 53 total TD's, 44 receptions, 388 receiving yards, 8.8 yards per catch, 16 kick returns, 207 kick return yards, 24 punt returns, 306 punt return yards. Decatur Community was 2014 Conference Champions. Honors and accomplishments in other sports include 2nd place state wrestling 2015, 2nd place state track 2015 100m dash, 4th place state wrestling 2016. Bryson is an outstanding son and enjoys lifting weights, wrestling and playing with Nya his Red Heeler dog. He has served as StuCo representative for the Letterman's Club. Solomon made the playoffs in 2013 and 2015, Regional Champions 2015, Wheat State League Champions 2013 and 2015. Blake was a track letterman 4 years. He has been a member of the Solomon Wranglers 4-H Club for 12 years, Dickinson County 4-H Squad Member 1 year and Dickinson Clovers 4-H Exchange 2 years. No. 50 - Erik Torres is a 2016 graduate of Kiowa County High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 4 year All League honors, 4 year All District honors, 1 year All State Honorable Mention, 2014-2015 Dodge City All Area Team Top Player. Kiowa County was District 6 Runner up in 2012 and undefeated regular season, District 6 Champions, Bi-District Champions in 2013. No. 56 - Trevor Briggs is a 2016 graduate of Hodgeman County High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: All League 2nd Team Center, 2015 & 2014; All League Honorable Mention Center, 2013; 50 career tackles, 5 forced fumbles, 2 recoveries for 35 years. Hodgeman County had an undefeated regular season in 3213 and was District Champions and State Runner-up. Honors and accomplishments in other sports include 2015 Sub-State Runner-up in basketball, 2015 All League Champion individual and team golf, 2014 All League Champion team golf, 2014 and 2015 Team State Runner-Up Golf. Kiowa County was District Champs and Bi-District Runner-Up in 2012; District Champs, Bi-District Champs and Regional Runner-Up in 2013; District Champs, and Bi-District Runner Up in 2015. Aaron was selected All State for Shot Put in 2014 and State Heavy Weight Power Lifting Champ in 2014 in clean, squat, overall and 4th in Bench. Hobbies and interests include hunting and lifting weights. Aaron has been on the honor roll at school all four years. Aaron's parents are Steve and Kristi Heft.
No. 58 - Michael Colter is a 2016 graduate of South Central High School. Football statistics and accomplishments include: 1 TD rushing, 1 TD FR, 215 total tackles, 68 solo tackles, 11 sacks, 3 interceptions, 4 fumble recoveries, 5 fumbles caused. In 2014-15 he was the League's Leading Tackler (117). Team achievements include: 2013-14: District Runner-Up, Bi-District Runner-Up; 2014-15: District Runner-Up, Bi-District Runner-Up; 2015-16: District Champs, Bi-District Runner-Up. Michael lettered in track 4 years. He is a member of the CCD religion group and enjoys fishing, hunting and outdoor activities. Activities and honors in school include All League Honorable Mention Scholar's Bowl and 2 year member of the National Honor Society. Michael's parents are Brady and Stephanie Colter.
