Irene Saulnier, Age 104

Irene M. Saulnier, age 104 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, Concordia, KS. She was born on March 29, 1912 in Aurora, KS to Xavier & Georgiana (Breault) Letourneau.

Irene received her education from Cloud Co. Schools, graduated from Aurora High School and Marymount College. Irene taught in rural schools from 1930-1941 before she married Julian (Pete) Saulnier on July 1, 1941 in Eureka, CA. Julian served in the armed forces during WWII and was killed in action on June 4, 1944 in New Guinea.

Irene returned to Concordia with her 3 month old daughter, Mary Jane. She went back to teaching in 1950 until her retirement in 1977. She taught at St. Joseph, Glasco, Aurora & Sibley Elementary and 2nd grade at McKinley Elementary in Concordia.

Irene was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the Altar Society and volunteered her time at the church over her many years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, FAL (former Aurora Ladies) & VFW & Am. Legion Auxiliaries. Irene was always willing to help out at church or in the community wherever they needed an extra hand.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Gallagher (Jerry), Concordia; grandchildren; Michelle Gallagher (Brian Dorman), Concordia; Scott Gallagher, Edwardsville, IL, Julie Vines, Concordia, & Vikki Jochems (Eric), Concordia; great grandchildren; Kayla Hood, Justin Ramsey, Joshua, Sarah & Matthew Gallagher, Rope Dorman, Tryston Jochems & Natalie & Daniel Vines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian; her parents & brothers, Hector, Leonard & Delor Letourneau & sisters, Marcelline Letourneau, Eva Harnois, Denora Chaput, Melina Walker, Juliette Rheault & Angeline Strumfa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Sat., June 18, 2016 with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Burial will follow at St. Concordia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 am-9 pm on Fri., June 17, 2016 with a Vigil and Altar Society Rosary at 6 pm with the family greeting friends from 6:30-8:30 pm, all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
