Alice Henrietta Hauffe Jackson was born October 23, 1923 in Rahway, New Jersey to Paul Adolf Hauffe and Julia Marie Kucera Hauffe. She died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Cedars Care Center in McPherson, KS. She was 92 years and 10 Months.
Alice graduated from Rahway High School in the spring of 1941. After high school, she went to work for Quinn & Boden Co. a book manufacturer in Rahway. It was at her employers Christmas party that she met a sailor from Concordia, Kansas. John O. Jackson was stationed in New York City and could not get home for the holidays so one of Alice's co-workers invited him to Quinn & Boden's Christmas dinner and dance. They were married March 23, 1946. Alice and John lived in Concordia until 1952 when they moved to a dairy farm near Jamestown where they lived until 1978. While on the dairy farm, Alice was very busy raising a family, helping on the farm feeding bucket calves, sewing and gardening. In 1978 they retired and moved to "City Edge Farm", a remodeled, two story home on the northwest corner of Concordia where John's parents had lived. They enjoyed their retirement together, traveling, going to the Senior Center, attending church activities and family events. They celebrated 65 years of marriage until John passed away in April 2011.
Alice and John raised a family of three girls: Anita (Keith Sherwood), McPherson, KS; Andrea (Gene Leonard) Bella Vista, AR; and Ann (John Buser), Dallas, TX.
Alice is survived by her three daughters, five grandchildren; Kristi Fate (Bruce), Lee's Summit, MO; Nathan Sherwood (Kim), rural Towanda, KS; Melanie Pearce Smith (Michael), Edmond, OK; Alyssa Buser, Philadelphia, PA; and Andrew (Bo) Buser, Denver, CO. Great grandchildren: Savannah and Karli Fate, Kendall and Emma Sherwood. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Billie Lee Jackson, Concordia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Julia Crans and husband Milton, Rahway, NJ; sisters-in-law, Eilene Dalrymple and husband Bill, Grand Island, NE; Geneva Henderson and husband David, Overland Park, KS; June Jackson, Concordia and grandson-in-law, Jared Pearce, Guthrie, OK.
There will be a public visitation, Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 9:00 AM-9:00 PM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, 325 W. 6th St., Concordia. The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Concordia Lutheran Church at 10 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2016 with the Rev. David Strommen & Rev. Janai Robinson officiating. Burial services will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
