Judith Dyer-Carlgren, Age 73

Judith Elaine Trost Dyer-Carlgren (73), of Scandia, Kansas, passed away on September 10, 2016. She was born September 26, 1942, in Concordia, Kansas, to Harold Trost and Edith (Kivett) Trost. She graduated eighth grade from Huscher Dist. 57 and graduated from Concordia High School before attending Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas, where she obtained her degree in elementary education. Her first position was teaching grades 1-4 at Wabaunsee County Rural School, followed by a position teaching grades 5-8, science, and health at Cedar Vale, Kansas. The next 35 years were taught in Sedan Elementary, Sedan, Kansas, where she taught in first grade for 30 years and in kindergarten for 5 years. In 1965 she married Charles Wilbur (Bill) Dyer, and to this union were born two sons: Gregory Alan and Bradley Charles. They divorced in 1991, and in 1993 she married Carl Wayne Carlgren and gained two adult sons: Brian Scott and Randy Kent. Teaching was her calling, and she received much joy being with her students. The classroom was never dull, and every day held something new. She also enjoyed reading, music, sewing, cooking new dishes, traveling, tending her flowers and herbs, and living the rural life. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Norway, Kansas, Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Organization, and the Belleville Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Carl, and children Greg (Dana) Dyer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Brad Dyer of Olathe; Brian (Kendi) Carlgren of Salina; and Randy (Tami) Carlgren of North Newton. Her six grandchildren include Tavniah and Canon Dyer, Madison and Makenzi Carlgren, and Joshua and Hannah Carlgren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ann (Jim) Lanoue of Concordia and Sue (Larry) Barnett of Sedan; her brother, Randy (Sherry) Trost of Concordia; a sister-in-law, Doris Carlgren of Eureka; and two brothers-in-law, David (Sharon) Carlgren of Concordia and Art Carlgren of Auburn.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 16, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 325 E. 8th St., Concordia, Kansas. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, KS, followed by tea and coffee at Concordia Lutheran Church. Friends may call at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS from One PM until 9 PM on Wednesday and from 9 AM until 9 PM on Thursday where the family will greet friends from 6PM until 8PM on Thursday.
