Waverly Roy Scott, 61, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center.

Waverly was born on December 9, 1954 in Smith Center, the second child of Sidner and Beth (Williams) Scott. Throughout his childhood he lived in Smith County, Boulder, Colorado and Seattle, Washington. After graduating from Boulder High School, Waverly returned to the rural farm north of Athol. He attended Fort Hays State University where he received both his Bachelor's and his MBA.

Waverly met Jayne Rietzke Scott of Kensington the summer of 1976 and they were married on July 23, 1977 at First St. John Lutheran Church at Kensington. Their marriage was given 12 years of happiness and three children Kyle, Brooke and Lucas, before losing his wife to cancer in 1989.

Waverly worked in various professions over the years. From being an accountant for Great Plains Health Alliance, to working for Ball Aerospace, and Rethhorst Real Estate. He later started Scott Appraisal Services and then went to work for American Ag Credit as a general certified appraiser. He also continued to work and then take over Burtch Farms.

Waverly loved to cook and entertain. Many memories are shared of Waverly playing chef to his kids' classmates and friends. Waverly was known for his famous cheesecakes as well as other specialties. He enjoyed sports - coaching his sons in baseball, and following them in wrestling, football and basketball. He also liked to spend time at the lake, camping and boating with his family over the years. When he was younger he enjoyed hiking, backpacking, skiing, restoring his Porsche and playing the guitar.

Remaining to mourn his death are his three children and their families: Brooke McDowell and husband Darin of Kensington, Kyle Scott and wife Kelly of Parker, CO, and Lucas Scott of Wiesbaden Germany, grandchildren Brillon and Breckyn McDowell, Kynlee Scott and Logan Reed, Parents: Sidner and Beth Scott of Smith Center, and many nieces and nephews.

Waverly was preceded in death by his wife Jayne Alice Rietzke Scott, his sister and brother in law - Cindy and Terry Brennan, niece Erin Rietzke and father-in-law Erwin Rietzke.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016, 10:30 am at First St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington with Pastor Dave Hutson officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be given to the Waverly Scott Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of the mortuary.
