Sister Agnes Green, Age 101

Sister Agnes Bernita Green died November 15, 2016, at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, KS. She was 101 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 82 years. She was born in Seward, NE, on October 4, 1915, to Edward and Katherine Meadows Green, the first of five children, and was baptized Laura Elizabeth. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on February 14, 1934. On August 14, 1934, Laura received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Agnes Bernita. She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1935 and final vows on August 15, 1939.

Sister Agnes Bernita Green received an A.B. in mathematics from Marymount College, Salina. She taught for 45 years in institutions staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Collyer, Tipton, Park, Vincent, Salina, Junction City, Concordia, Beloit and Aurora, Kansas; Chicago, IL; El Paso, TX; Sidney and Grand Island, NE. After retiring from teaching Sister Agnes Bernita became a certified hospital chaplain and ministered in healthcare for 13 years. In 2004, Sister Agnes Bernita retired to the Motherhouse.

Sister Agnes Bernita Green was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Frederic Green of Bettendorf, IA. A Bible Vigil Service will be held November 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Judy Stephens as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be November 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse, Chapel Father Jim Hoover presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
