Lawrence Fredric Traudt of Hebron, Nebraska was born to Henry and Metta (Hamburger) Traudt on April 30, 1933 in Edgar, Nebraska. He was the youngest of six boys. He was called home on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron at the age of 83 years.

Lawrence was baptized June 11, 1933 and confirmed July 7, 1946. He grew up in the Edgar and Sutton area, and graduated from Sutton High School with the class of 1950. Lawrence entered the United States Army in May of 1953 and was honorably discharged in March of 1955. During his tour, he served one year in Japan.

Lawrence was united in marriage to Phyllis Merrill on March 11, 1956, in Geneva, by Pastor F.E. Foutz at the Methodist Church. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Lorene and Lois.

Lawrence and Phyllis moved to Hebron from Sutton in 1965, and he worked for Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company. In 1971, Lawrence and Phyllis opened Traudts Sheet Metal. In 1993, they sold the business to Jaye and Sheena Moeller. After the sale, Lawrence continued to do the work he loved alongside Jaye, until his health prohibited it.

Pride in his community led him to involvement in several organizations, including a 50 year membership between Sutton and Hebron Volunteer Fire Departments, where he served as Fire Chief, American Legion Saxton Post #180, Hebron Country Club and numerous other civic organizations. Lawrence also served on Thayer County Hospital Foundation Board and was Thayer County Commissioner from 1998 to 2011. Lawrence was an active member of the Hebron United Methodist Church for 52 years. One of his greatest contributions to the church was building a curio cabinet to house the historical artifacts of the church. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing; and as his health declined, his passion turned to woodworking and painting. Most importantly, Lawrence always treasured the time spent with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Fred and Irene Merrill, brothers Paul (Katy) Donald (Fern) Ernest (Ruth), LeRoy and infant twin ElRoy, sister-in-law Doris Richards (Dean) and infant in-laws Lois and Charles Merrill, nephew Dale Traudt and niece Cack Traudt.
