Marilyn (Johnson) Bergstrom, 82, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at her home in Courtland, KS. She was born December 21, 1934, at Garfield Center, Clay Center, KS to Lawrence and Verda (Anderson) Johnson. She married Marvin Bergstrom September 23, 1955. They started their married life north of Clifton, KS and then moved to Courtland, KS in 1957, where they started a farming operation. They eventually formed Bergstrom Livestock Company, which added the marketing of sheep to their business. In 1984, they purchased Farmers Livestock Commission Company, Washington, KS. Marilyn was the head bookkeeper until they sold the sale barn in 2007. She continued to contribute on a part time basis until her final days. Marilyn enjoyed being involved in several community activities including 30+ years as a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, teaching Bible School, and being very active in the Covenant Women's group and the Covenant Church. She is survived by her husband, Marvin; children: Quinten (Melissa) Bergstrom, Courtland, KS and Brenda (Lance) Lagasse, Concordia, KS; Grandchildren: Kayla Bergstrom, Russell, KS, Konner (Brittany) Bergstrom, McPherson, KS, Kora Bergstrom, Salina, KS, Layne Lagasse, Alva, OK and Taylor Lagasse, Concordia, KS along with step grandchildren, Derek (Miranda) Stewart, San Angelo, TX, and Devon Stewart, Topeka, KS; along with 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents' in-law and a sister-in-law. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting family and friends 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Wednesday July 12 at Tibbetts Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, KS. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Courtland Covenant Church, Courtland, KS with burial being in the Courtland Cemetery. Officiants were Mr. Jake Englebert and Mr. Dwight Garman. Memorials can be made to the Courtland Covenant Church or Central Christian College, McPherson, KS. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas, assisted the Bergstrom family with these arrangements.
