Dean Decker Brewer, a lifetime resident of rural Norway, Kansas, died at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas, the morning of November 25, 2017. He was born to Joseph Elmer Brewer and Norma Marie Brewer on February 18, 1927 at their home, near Norway. To their union six sons were born: John, Joseph, Owen, Archie, Melvin and Dean. His mother passed on while he was an infant. Dean married Irma Elaine Ames on January 29, 1950. To that union, four children were born: Dana Evan Brewer, Diane Ruth Johnson, JoDee Marie Rothfuss, and Sheri Lynn Johnson. Dean completed grade school at Fairview school near Norway and graduated from Concordia High School in 1945. Dean earned a Bachelors degree from Kansas State University and taught at and was principal of Norway Grade School for several years. He and his wife, Irma, then farmed for many years with his father, Joe while raising their family. Dean was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, as his Lord and Savior. He lived a life of service to others, sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions, or handwritten letters of encouragement, to scores of people over his lifetime. Dean was active in Gideons for a number of years and involved in the spiritual life of the church congregations to which he and Irma belonged over the years: Norway Evangelical United Brethren, Concordia Baptist and the Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran churches.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Melvin, John, Joe and Owen. He is survived by his wife, Irma, of the home, as well as children: Diane (Rick) Johnson of Snowflake, Arizona and Dana (Tina) Brewer, JoDee (Mark) Rothfuss and Sheri (Kevin) Johnson, all of Concordia. Grandchildren are: Sarah (Joe) Hauber, Sargeant Isaac Rothfuss, Joshua (Rachel) Johnson, Ashleigh Johnson, Marie (Garrett) Brummett and Addison Johnson.

Celebration of life service will be held at Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Norway, Kansas at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 with Pastor Tom Kamprath officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery near Norway. Visitation will be available at Chaput-Buoy funeral home, Concordia, Kansas between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be given to Samaritans Purse c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
