Earl Buckley, Age 89

Earl Edmund Buckley entered into eternal rest on January 5, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska. Earl was born August 21st, 1928, in Ames, Kansas, to Robert and Nora Buckley. He has lived in the Northbranch (Northern Kansas) area for 56 years. He leaves behind wife Lonnie; children, Pam Garman of Burr Oak, KS, Sherry Willerton of Tucson, AZ, Randy Buckley of Garden City, KS, Ron Buckley of Aurora, CO, and Roger Buckley of Centennial, CO; as well as 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mae Buckley; his parents, Robert and Nora Buckley; and his siblings, Floyd Buckley, Mabel Kalin, Wilbur Buckley, and Wilma (Jean) Nelson.

Earl married Donna Mae Roberson in January 1951. Following her death in May 1988, Earl married Lonnie Diehl in June of 1989. Earl served in the Navy after enlisting at age 18. He served in the Korean War on the destroyer, U.S.S. Keppler. Earl was involved in custom harvesting for 50 years. He would travel every year from Oklahoma to North Dakota custom combining from May until October. During the fall he would harvest corn, milo, and soybeans around Northern Kansas and Southern Nebraska. Earl also farmed his own land as well as constructing farm buildings and grain bins. He continued to work until age 85. Between his travels in the Navy and his work in custom combining, Earl met many people and was able to visit many different interesting places. This was one of his favorite things to share with loved ones, and he enjoyed telling stories about his travels and friends. Another important part of Earl's life was his faith. He was a member of Northbranch Friends Church since 1983. Previously, he was a member of Wesley Center Wesleyan Church for 30 years. He highly valued attending church and joining others in fellowship in Christ; he made an extraordinary effort to continue to regularly attend his church despite moving to Mankato in 2008. Promoting others' relationships with Christ was also very important to Earl. He went out of his way to routinely provide rides for children to Sunday School. Also, he was a part of the Gideons International, and he distributed Bibles to as many people as he could. Earl was also involved in the Jewell County Historical Society. He sought to preserve history and artifacts, as well as to honor the area he lived in for most of his life and his farming roots. Earl was a joy-filled and faithful man who loved spending time with his family, watching basketball, and working hard.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., January 13, 2018 at the Northbranch Friends Church in Jewell County, Kansas with Rev. Jon Harkness and Kelly McNichols officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery.

â€‹Visitation will be held Thursday and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to service time at the church.
