Wilbert E. Crouse, 96

Wilbert Earl Crouse, son of John Sebastian Crouse and Alta Harriet (Thomas) Crouse, was born at home in rural Chester, Nebraska on August 21, 1922. He departed this life at the age of 96 on January 13, 2019.
Wilbert was educated at Chester Public School and graduated in 1939 at age 16. After school he worked on the family farm until he was drafted in 1945 and served with the US Army in the Philippines and Japan. Upon completion of his tour, Wilbert returned to the family farm where he worked until his retirement in 1988.
On August 15, 1954, Wilbert was united in marriage to Jean Davenport in Chester, Nebraska. Seven children were born to this union. He was a devoted husband and father, evidenced by his hard work for them.
At an early age, he put his faith in Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Though he was a man of few words, the life he lived exemplified a love and devotion to God. Wilbert appreciated his church and community and was a willing participant in many tasks. His desire was for his family to serve the Lord. He was a member of Gideons.
He loved farming and was very mechanical and creative. Neighbors brought farm equipment that needed quick repairs to Wilbert. One item that he built in his later years was a snowblower he could ride on because he couldn't walk well enough to push it. Wilbert also enjoyed working on the computer and maintained the Chester Cemetery records for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John and sister Ruth, two young brothers and an infant son, Larry.
Wilbert will be greatly missed by his wife Jean, of the home, daughter Sally Singer (Kevin), Mifflinburg, PA; son Warren (Cheryl), Kinston, N.
