Robert Eilers, 88

Robert "Bob" August Eilers, 88, the son of Otto and Ruby Eilers, was born May 3, 1930, in Nelson, Nebraska. He died February 12, 2019, at Mercy Hospice at Village Ridge in Marion, Iowa.
Bob attended country school near Nelson. After graduating, he worked on the family farm with his father, Otto, and his brothers, John Dale and Harold.
In 1951, Bob entered into the service of the United States Army, being stationed in Alaska for the duration of the Korean War. It was while home on leave that he met the love of his life, Mildred Love, whom he would marry in 1953 and with whom he would share the next 62 years, until Mildred's death in 2015.
Bob and Mildred bought a farm east of Nelson, where they lived and raised two children, Stanley "Stan" and Gayleen "Gay". Bob took great pride in producing quality purebred Duroc hogs, participating in many shows and sales. Later, he added other breeds of swine, such as Hampshire, Spot and Herefords. Bob also dabbled in raising pigeons, miniature donkeys and guinea fowl. When the couple retired from farming, Bob worked at the Nelson golf course as a groundskeeper and at the local hardware store. In 2006, Bob and Mildred moved from the farm to Nelson. He finally retired for good in 2013.
Bob was an avid and quite proficient bowler, belonging to several teams and leagues throughout the years. He also took up golfing in his later years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Gayleen; and his two brothers.
Survivors include his son, Stan Eilers, and Stan's wife, Carol, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Tracy Eilers, Alison Eilers, and Tim Eilers and his significant other, Saddah Hadish, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Lily, Corey and Sadie Eilers; and a sister Helen.
