Betty Brown, 86

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Henderson Brown was born October 24, 1932 at Belleville, KS the daughter of Earl R. and Bessie J. (Arthur) Henderson and passed away on May 16, 2019 at Rolling Hills Health Center Topeka, KS at age 86.
Betty graduated from Belleville High School in 1950. She received further education from Dodge City Community College and Kansas University, becoming a Certified Municipal Clerk.
On August 27, 1950, she married Harold Eugene Brown at Belleville, KS and they had five sons. They lived in Belleville, Scandia, Haviland, Kinsley, Burr Oak, and Courtland, KS.
In addition to being a homemaker, Betty cooked for the Kinsley-Offerle School District, worked in an auto parts store, and served as Kinsley city clerk. She enjoyed vacations with her husband, family, and grandchildren and was a member of Sunny Sam's RV Club, Belleville, and Happy Senior Citizens Club, Burr Oak.
Betty was a devout Christian taking time for daily prayer and Bible study throughout her lifetime. Her favorite Bible verse was "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
Betty was a member of the Church of the Nazarene while living in Kinsley and Burr Oak, serving as adult Sunday school teacher, missions education leader, and church treasurer. She was also active in local community Bible study groups and Courtland United Methodist Church.
During the last five years, Betty resided at Rolling Hills Health Center where she became friends with the residents and caring staff, enjoying the worship times and activities there.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold E. Brown on April 23, 2015; son, Clifford; brother, Arthur; and sisters: Dorothy, Claudia, June, and Shirley.
She is survived by four sons, Doug Brown, San Marcos, TX; Sam Brown, Lawrence, KS; Scott (Pam) Brown, Bismarck, ND; and Dale (Debbie) Brown, Manhattan, KS; brother, Terry Henderson, Salina, KS; sister, Peggy Crawford, Topeka, KS; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the United Methodist Church, Courtland, KS.
Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, KS.
Friends may call from 1 PM until 8 PM on Friday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.
Memorials are suggested to Courtland United Methodist Church, Courtland, KS or Fisher-Brown Scholarship Fund at MidAmerica Nazarene University, Olathe, KS.
