Donald J. McCartney, 77

Donald J. McCartney, the son of George and Berniece (Delka) McCartney, was born on December 24, 1941 in Smith County, Kansas. He passed away on August 8, 2019 at the Fillmore County Hospital at Geneva, Nebraska, at the age of 77 years, 7 months, 15 days.
Donald was one of seven children. He attended Oriole rural school and was a graduate of Red Cloud High School. Donald was united in marriage to Barbara Wilmot on June 2, 1962 at the United Methodist Church in Red Cloud, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two children. They moved to Nelson in 1963 where they raised their family and made it their home.
He was a service technician for Kinder Morgan for 40 years. Donald was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, 50-year member of the Nelson Fire Department, 19-year member of the EMT's, Elk Creek Country Club and was always active in the Community.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, and traveling. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, and spending time with his family and attending their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Berniece; two brothers, Robert "Bob" and Paul Edward McCartney; two sisters-in-law, Ruth McCartney and Thelma Wilmot; brothers-in-law, Wilbur Reibold and Ivan Wilmot; niece, Joan McCartney and nephew, Roger Wilmot.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Nelson; daughters, Theresa Hurt and husband Kevin of Juniata, Nebraska, and Julie McDonald and husband Mark; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd (Mary Ann) McCartney of Hastings, Nebraska, Darrel (Donna) McCartney of Inland, Nebraska; sisters, Mary Jane Reibold of Red Cloud, Nebraska, and Linda (John) Biltoft of Nelson, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 12, at Nelson Community United Church of Christ, Nelson, Nebraska. Pastors Ivan and Joyce Dean will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Smith County, Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday with the family present from 7-8 at the Klawitter-Price Funeral Home, 446 South Main St., Nelson, Nebraska 68961 Phone 402-225-3301.
