Wynona Spannenberg, 88

Wynona B. "Nonie" Spannenberg, the daughter of Cloyd and Neva (Johnson) Marty, was born November 18, 1931 in Courtland, Kansas and passed away on December 27, 2019 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 9 days.
Wynona grew up in Courtland, KS, later graduating from Belleville High School. She then attended Marymount College, Salina, KS where she received a BA Degree, and later received a MS Degree from Kansas State University.
On June 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Eugene "Gene" Spannenberg and to this union was born: Eric, Nancy, and Karen. Wynona taught for 24 years for USD #427, Belleville, KS in kindergarten and elementary grades. She also taught kindergarten for one and half years at Scandia, KS and one year at Paola, KS. After retiring in 1992, she did substitute teaching and also worked for 17 years at the Kansas Travel and Information Center in Belleville.
Wynona was a member of the American Lutheran Church along with WELCA, holding offices in both Church and WELCA. She was a member of the Beta Delphian Study Club, the Gideons International Auxiliary, and a former board member on the Belleville After School Program and Belleville Public Library. Wynona was also a Meadowlark Hospice Volunteer.
She was preceded in death by parents, Cloyd and Neva Marty; husband, Gene Spannenberg in 2018; and one brother, Harry Marty.
Wynona is survived by one son, Eric (Rhonda) Spannenberg of Taos, New Mexico; two daughters, Nancy (Michael) Phillips of Groveton, New Hampshire, and Karen (Kevin) Breen of Findlay, Ohio; 3 grandchildren, Joseph Breen, Patrick Breen, and Grace Phillips; one step grandchild, Dru Combs; 2 step great grandchildren Vincent and Anna Combs; one sister, Geraldine Beames of Memphis, Tennessee; other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at the American Lutheran Church, Belleville, KS, with PMA Al Urich, officiating.
Interment will be at the Courtland Cemetery, Courtland, Kansas.
Friends may call from 1 PM until 8 PM on Monday at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS, where the family will greet friends from 5 PM until 7 PM.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church, Gideons International, or Belleville Public Library.
