Beverley Lambert, Age 84

Beverley Lorraine (Ellis) Lambert was born to Ross and Ruth (Beardslee) Ellis at the farm north of Lebanon, KS on October 14, 1931 and departed this life on August 10, 2016 to be with her Lord and Savior. Beverley was the middle of nine children. Her brothers were Ivan, Stanley, Russell and Roger. Her sisters were Shirley, Julia (Judy), Wanda and Vivian. She went to country school at the Beardslee School and then to Lebanon High School and graduated in 1949. Beverley was a cheerleader and never forgot that the rest of her life as she loved to cheer for her grandkids from the stands. While growing up at the farm she learned her cooking skills as her job was to help her mom in the kitchen while the rest of her siblings had to go to the barn and milk cows. She was a wonderful cook and could put together a delicious meal quickly. One of her greatest joys was in having her family all together at meal time. She was also a very skilled seamstress and made most of her daughter's clothes. Her other joy was her faith which she lived out each day in her walk with her Lord Jesus. She was a faithful servant and prayer warrior for the Thornburg Church. After graduation she worked at the C.C.C. office in Smith Center. Beverley liked softball games and that is where she first met her future husband, Joe Lambert. After a short courtship they were engaged and then were married on February 11, 1951 at the Thornburg Church by Rev. Wm. J Brown, the same minister that married Joe's parents. They were able to enjoy 64 years together, and had a big celebration together on their 60th. Because of health issues for both of them, they were not able to spend their last 3 years together as her Alzheimers progressed. This was the greatest sorrow of their lives. To this union three children were born, Larry, Judith (Judy) and Jerry. In January of 1952 Joe received orders from the Army to go to Fairbanks, Alaska where Beverley and son, Larry, soon joined him. The winter was very cold hitting -40 below however they enjoyed their time there. After leaving Fairbanks, Beverley and Joe settled on the farm 2 miles west of Thornburg where they lived for 43 years before moving to town in 1995 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. At the farm Beverley loved working in the garden and canning and caring for farm animals. In 1968 Beverley began working in the Smith County Treasurers office, a job which she held for 29 years until her retirement. Bev enjoyed traveling and she and Joe went on several bus tours and also enjoyed going to the Smith Center football and basketball games that he video taped for the school.
