Edna Epley, Age 94

Edna Mayme Sophie Epley, the daughter of Louie and Lena (Tegtmeier) Meyer, was born on March 24, 1922 in a farm house nine miles south of Nelson, Nebraska. She passed away on September 24, 2016 at the Thayer County Health Services at Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, and 6 months.

Edna was baptized on April 16, 1922, and her sponsors were Mayme Meyer and Sophie Meyer. She was confirmed on September 27, 1936. Both took place at Salem Lutheran Church.

She graduated from Nelson High School and went on to business school in Boise, Idaho. She was united in marriage to Alvin Epley on June 4, 1945, at Salem Lutheran Church. The Epleys farmed in the Nora area and Enda worked as a secretary for the Rural Electrification Administration, Salem Lutheran Church, Channel 4 Television, and the Good Samaritan Society. The activities that she enjoyed included sewing, square dancing, playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, and movies. Edna was a wonderful cook and was known for her homemade bread.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; all five of her siblings, Mildred, Margaret, Pauline, Alfred, and Shirley; and great-granddaughter Harper Oltmans.

Survivors include one son, Edd Epley, and wife Ruth of Nelson; two daughters, Betty Miller an husband Wayne, and Judy Vieselmeyer and husband Lee both of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Staci Cooper and husband Paul; Ethan Epley and wife Dana; Chad Miller and wife Nicole; Aaron Oltmans and wife Jessica; Amy Groff; Amber Soucek and husband Corey; and Avery Oltmans and wife Michaela; 22 great-grandchildren, Anna and Celia Cooper; Cole, Hayden, Hallie and Emma Epley; Jacob, Evan, and Reece Miller; Paige, Maia, Eva, and Chase Oltmans; Ashlen, Dani and Caleb Groff; Alex, Caloway, Keaton and McKinley Soucek; and Grace and Sophie Oltmans; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
