David Coash was born October 4, 1937 and died January 27, 2018.
David was a man of conviction, he expected you to keep it under 85, that there will be better days - and there will be worse days, nothing should be done half-ass, and free-throws win ballgames.
He was born in Clifton, the sixth of eight children. The Coash's were just as poor as everyone else at the time, and he helped in his dad's shop, worked for various farmers, was a gas station attendant, and joined the Army because "that's just what you did." The Army took him across the country and back, quite literally as he started his four-year commitment in Fort Leonardwood Missouri and was also stationed in Fort Belvior Virginia, and Fort Lewis Washington. He was on his way to South Korea when his superior called his name and he was stationed "on a mountain in Japan" for the remainder of his four year commitment. While there, he learned very limited Japanese, figured out that he hated rice, and saved a pregnant young woman and her child by driving them down the mountain to get help. Later he worked at the Concordia Brick Plant and for Northern Natural Gas in Clifton. His faith in God was a complicated thing, he grew up in the Catholic faith, but also fell in love with a divorcee with three children, Reva Howard Ross, who he married November 4, 1966 in the Clyde United Methodist Church, just down the street from where they would make their home for the next 50 plus years. In addition to their three children: Nan, Nori (Kurtis), and Michael (Janell) years later a fourth child, Rhys (Sean) was born. Then came the people he loved most, his grandchildren, Addelaine, Courtney (Jason), Blake, Morgan (Austin), Caitlyn, Kasey, Scouten and Whitney. He could fix almost anything with a motor, lead by example, and was one of the most patient men to ever walk the Earth.
David is survived by his daughters, son, daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, his grandchildren, his brothers John Coash and Duane Coash, his sister Frances Kantack, and his sisters-in law, Donna Hamel, Brenda (Ron Watson) Anderson, and Javine (Larry) Bertrand.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at the Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at The Branch in Clyde, Kansas with Pastor Paul Tessaro officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post #7515 of Clyde. Memorial contributions may be given to Meadowlark Hospice in c/o Chaput Mortuary.
