Darlene Hayes, Age 69

Darlene Hayes, the daughter of Leonard and Ruth (Wehrly) Whitten, was born on November 13, 1948, in Hastings, Nebraska. She passed away on October 13, 2018, at her home in Bostwick which is now rural Superior, Nebraska at the age of 69 years, and 11 months.

Darlene attended grade school in Guide Rock and graduated from Guide Rock High School with the class of 1967. She was united in marriage to Samuel Hayes on June 1, 1968. This union was blessed with a son and daughter Brad and Becky. Darlene was a homemaker for her family and also helped Sam on the farm, working with the livestock. She also worked as an assistant manager at Gas-N-Shop, she bartended at the VFW and Legion Club and worked at Kirchhoff Farms in Hardy, Nebraska.

Darlene liked to travel, which included Japan, Hawaii, and California. She attended many of her grandchildren's activities. Her hobbies included working in the garden and putting together puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Dennis Whitten and her angel babies.

Survivors include her husband Sam; her son Brad A Senior Chief in the US Navy presently stationed on ship Blueridge and his wife Amy; and her daughter Becky Meyer of Smith Center, Kansas; 7 grandchildren: David and wife Lyssa, Brett and Ashlynn Meyer; Jocelyn, Sam, Carolyn, and Gwendolyn Hayes; and great-granddaughter Ava Meyer. She is also survived by her brother Lonnie Whitten and his wife Debbie of Smith Center, Kansas and her sister Linda Thagard of Superior, Nebraska and her sister-in-law Patty Whitten of Blue Hill, Nebraska; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

There will be a private memorial graveside service for family and friends.
