Darold “Spider” Hiatt, 89

Darold L. "Spider" Hiatt, the son of Glenn and Dora (Knigge) Hiatt, was born on December 22, 1929 on a farm north of Guide Rock, Nebraska. He passed away on June 10, 2019 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 5 months, 19 days.
Spider, the nickname given to him at an early age, attended Superior grade school, graduating from Superior High School. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church since 1954. He enlisted with the United States Army in December of 1948 and was honorably discharged October of 1953, serving during the Korean war.
He was united in marriage to Loretta M. Mooberry on April 19, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, Nebraska. This union was blessed with seven children. Spider was employed at Ideal Cement Plant, and along with Loretta, they owned and operated the Kurly Kone, until their retirement.
Spider was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, and the Superior Country Club. He served as a board member on the school board. His hobbies included playing golf, playing cards and putting puzzles together. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Dora; his brother Valdean (Joan) Hiatt, sister Donna (Daryl) Lane, and brothers-in-law Jerry Kinsey and Wilber Mountford.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Loretta; and his children Stephen (Deb) Hiatt of Superior; Carla Hiatt of Lincoln; Evonne Hiatt of Superior; Kurt (Julie) Hiatt of Waukee, Iowa; David (Melody) Hiatt of Omaha; Debra (Gregg) Brazil of Superior; and Susan (Jim) Peterson of Superior; 18 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren; and four sisters, Betty Mountford of Shawnee, Kansas; Sharon (Carl) Oliver of Wamego, Kansas; Alice Kinsey of Mankato, Kansas; and Judy (Dale) Mauler of Franklin, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.
Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church, 1415 California Street, Superior, Nebraska, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 10:30 am. Fr. Boehme will officiate.
Private Family Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SNAC (Crest Theatre) or the Simic Skating Rink.
Rosary Service will be held 7:00 pm on Friday at the Funeral Home followed by visitation until 9:00 pm with the family present.
