Robert D. "Bob" Larson, 90, of Scandia, Kansas, the son of George C. Larson and Ruby A. (Aspegren) Larson, was born September 27, 1932 in rural Scandia, Kansas, and passed away on September 15, 2023 at his residence in Scandia, Kansas.
Bob grew up in the Scandia area, graduating from Scandia High School. He then began farming until serving with the US Army from 1953 until 1955. He was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Scandia area and began farming again. Bob was a lifetime farmer and stockman.
On July 25, 1953, he was united in marriage to Anita Barrett and to this union was born, Brian, Brenda, and Christine. The couple made their home in rural Scandia, Kansas.
Bob was a member of the Amana Lutheran Church, the Scandia Lions Club, and American Legion Post #193, Scandia. He was a USD 426 board member for multiple terms. He also served on the board of the Mud Creek District for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby Larson; brothers, Gene, G. Donald, Harold, Richard, and Larry Larson; and sister, Helen Sankey.
Bob is survived by his wife, Anita Larson of Scandia, Kansas; one son, Brian (Terri) Larson of Scandia, Kansas; two daughters, Brenda (Jeff) Sothers of Scandia, Kansas, and Christine (Terry) Henriksen of Courtland, Kansas; six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine (Lowell) Chellberg, of Topeka, Kansas; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia, Kansas, with PMA Marilyn Dunstan officiating.
Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, Kansas, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard, Fort Riley, Kansas.
Friends may call from 1 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, September 21, at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, Kansas, where the family will greet friends from 6 PM until 7 PM on Thursday. The casket will be closed at 8 PM Thursday, following the visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Solomon Valley Hospice or Scandia Industrial Development Corp.
