MITCHELL COUNTY COMMISSIONERS - Monday, June 3, 2024

The Mitchell County Commissioners conducted their regular weekly meeting at the Courthouse Monday morning, June 3. All Commissioners and the County Clerk were present.
The morning's business began with two executive sessions. The first session was a 10-minute period requested by County Clerk Heather Weston to discuss non-elected personnel. No action was taken as a result of that closed session. The second executive session was requested by County Appraiser Melinda Latham for the purpose of discussing non-elected personnel. No action was taken as a result of that closed session.
The Commissioners wanted to address the resignation of Chris Treaster who held the position of County Clerk for many years. She performed many valuable services over the years and her contributions were greatly appreciated.
The Commissioners finalized the distribution of Covid Funds to five local businesses who had applied for the funds. The recipients are: Beloit Dairy Queen, Kettle, Ludwig Chiropractic, Trapper Joe's, and Dunstan Trucking.
The Commissioners authorized the payment of $20,000 to the auditing firm of Vogel, Pierce, Faris Charter for the completion of the 2024 county finances.
The deadline filing for County Offices was 12 noon on Monday, June 3. The Commissioners reported there were a number of filings for offices.
County Clerk Weston reported that payment has been received from USD #273 for the special bond election. The County paid for the expenses for the election up front and provided a bill to the school district for all expenses incurred. That bill has bee paid in full by the school district.
Missy McGinnis, EMS Director, was present with two members of the EMS staff to discuss a new partnership program between the Ambulance Service and the Rescue Squad. They presented the concept of a Roth Emergency ID Tag. This is a tag that is placed on child seats in vehicles with identifying information about the child in the seat. Unfortunately, at times the adults in vehicles are not able to provide information about the children in the child seats. The identifying information on the Roth ID Tag allow first responders to access personal information about children very quickly. This is a national data base which allows this information to be accessed anytime, anywhere.
The Rescue Squad will be available during the Mitchell County Fair to distribute Roth ID Tags at no cost to anyone wishing it take advantage of this program. The Commissioners expressed considerable support for this program.
Having addressed all items on the printed agenda, the meeting was adjourned.
