Mary Marcelyn "Marcie" Deets, 95

Mary Marcelyn McCoy Deets was born on March 7, 1929, in Anthony, Kansas, the oldest of four children of Frederick Jackson McCoy and Olive Marie (Babcock) McCoy. She transitioned from this life into her eternal rest on June 2, 2024 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
"Marcie," as she was called by those who knew her, grew up during the Great Depression as her father worked for the Santa Fe railroad. Marcie's parents let her raise a calf that she bottle-fed until she could sell it for five dollars. With this money, she bought a stand-up piano, which is still in the family to this day. Because of her dad's railroad benefits, Marcie enjoyed traveling to the West Coast and the East Coast of the United States, having the rare opportunity to see much of the country as a teenager. These railroad trips provided many happy memories of pleasant time spent with her immediate and extended families.
The McCoy family attended First United Methodist Church in Wellington. Marcie's junior high girls' Sunday school teacher was Ethel Deets, the mother of Marcie's future husband, Max. When Marcie asked Max to accompany her on a hay ride, he turned her down because of choir practice. But eventually a romance developed between them at the United Methodist Youth Fellowship. At a retreat when she was a sophomore in high school, Marcie prayed to ask Jesus Christ to be her Lord and Savior.
At the age of 16, Marcie began working at a print shop, coming home each night with black ink covering her hands. Marcie excelled at business classes in high school and quickly learned how to type and do shorthand. In 1947, Marcie graduated third in her class from Wellington High School.
Marcie entered Kansas State University in 1947, pledging Clovia sorority, and graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics. In 1949, Marcie married Max Edward Deets. The two graduated from K-State together in 1951.
Marcie quickly made the transition to being a wife and a mother. After starting married life in an 8 x 20 feet trailer home in Manhattan and on the family farm of Max's parents near Wellington, Max went into the cattle business, working on Eby Ranch near Fredonia, at Ark Valley Feeders near Arkansas City, and then in 1970 at Solomon Valley Feedlot near Beloit, where Marcie eventually started her own income tax preparation and real estate businesses. Marcie's entrepreneurial spirit shone through as she established Marcie Deets Realty in Beloit, where her commitment to her clients was evident through her slogan "Marcie Cares!"
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marcie found immense joy and fulfillment as a wife to Max and as a mother to six children: Doug, Deanna, Delores, Darwin, Marietta and Mark. She tirelessly supported their various activities while also carrying out her own responsibilities with tender excellence.
Marcie's toughness carried her through the challenges of life, but this toughness was balanced by a heart of gold. She dedicated much of her life to serving others and making a positive impact wherever she went. In addition to her business acumen and maternal role, Marcie devoted countless hours to service at the Beloit United Methodist Church and community activities like 4-H. She found solace and joy in hobbies such as sewing, cross-stitching, gardening, and playing bridge.
Marcelyn Deets is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband Max and her son, Darwin Deets. She is survived by her children, Doug Deets (husband to the late Kevin Kimerer Deets), Deanna Suder (wife to the late Steven Suder), Delores Wesley (wife to Glenn Wesley), Marietta Bauck (wife to Russ Bauck), and Mark Deets (husband to Taryn Rediker Deets). Marcie was "grandma" to seventeen grandchildren and great-grandma to ten great-grandchildren.
Despite the void left by Marcie's departure, her legacy lives on through the memories and values she imparted to her family and friends. May we remember Marcelyn Deets not only for her professional achievements but also for the love, care, and dedication she poured into every aspect of her life. Her example remains an inspiration for those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In honor of Marcie's remarkable life and the love she shared with those around her, a Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Beloit Methodist Church in Beloit, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit.
Memorials may be made to "One Challenge", which is a mission organization with significance to Marcie and family.
