Frances Muck, 80, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, Kansas.
Frances was born on April 10, 1944, in rural Smith County, Kansas, the daughter of Nathan A. and Meriem (Hershey) Muck.
Frances's father was a gifted musician who could dance the schottische, call square dances and play the French harp. Perhaps this is where Frances got her love for music. It is said that he would rock her in his old rocking chair reading or singing to her. Frances literally knew all the words to hundreds of hymns, country western and Christmas songs. Her niece, Margo, said it best when she stated, "I can still hear her singing the Christmas Candy song when she would spend Christmas with us." Her theme song could have been "Count Your Blessings" which she often sang with her sister, Hazel, even during their phone conversations. Frances believed that no matter the circumstances, she still experienced many blessings! She loved the Lord, giving him praise in her daily prayers. She also loved her brothers and sisters dearly and never failed to ask about their wellbeing.
She loved conversations with friends and family and never missed a chance to inject a joke, a bit of teasing or humor and then laugh heartily. Frances took great pride in her years spent in Garden City, Kansas, where she had her own apartment and worked at Taco Bell for 20 years until her health began to decline and walking became difficult for her. Her constant companion was her sloth given to her on her 78th birthday by her guardian/niece, Kaci.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lily Wilcoxsin, Helen Chase and Adelia Muck; and two brothers, Bill and Frank Muck.
Frances is survived by one sister, Hazel (Kendall) Nichols of Smith Center, Kansas; four brothers, Karl (Denise) Zimmerman of Osage City, Kansas, David Horning, Jim (Donna) Muck and Gene (Mary) Casteel, all of Gaylord, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Else Muck of Gaylord, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Hammond Cemetery, Harlan, Kansas, with Pastor Ron Wilcoxsin officiating. There will not be a public visitation as cremation was chosen.
Memorials may be given to the Frances Muck Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS 66967.
