Mark A. VanNortwick, the son of D. Elmer VanNortwick and Ila Marie (Moe) VanNortwick, was born July 10, 1958, in Belleville, Kansas, and passed away on July 11, 2024, in Belleville, Kansas, in his home at the age of 66 years.
Mark lived his entire life in Republic County, living on the farm and helping his family. He later moved to Belleville in 2001. Mark attended school at Republic, Kansas, and Belleville, graduating from Belleville High School.
He worked at Food Mart, Alsop Sand Company and for 30 years at USD 427/109 in Belleville, retiring as Director of Transportation.
Mark's enjoyment was having his family around him and hosting many family events each year. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help others.
He was a lifelong and active member the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas. He was the head trustee and was instrumental in the implementation and construction of the Church elevator. Mark also worked at the Methodist Church Food Stand for many years during the fair. He enjoyed playing pool at the Concordia American Legion and was an avid NASCAR racing fan.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, D. Elmer VanNortwick.
Mark is survived by his mother, Ila Marie VanNortwick of Belleville, Kansas; three daughters, Brandi (James) Lewis of Concordia, Kansas, Tabitha (Cody) Deneault of Belleville, Kansas, and Jade (Kenny) Toledo of Chipley, Florida; brother, Lynn (Kim) VanNortwick of Belleville, Kansas; five grandchildren; one great-grandson, one nephew, two nieces; longtime companion, Lisa Hedstrom of Belleville, Kansas, and many friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas, with Pastor Amos McCarthy officiating. Casual attire is requested. The service will be live-streamed via the First United Methodist Church Facebook page.
Family inurnment will be held at a later time at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.
Cremation was selected. Friends may sign the register book from 1 PM until 6 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, and prior to the services on Thursday at the Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriner's Hospital, St. Louis.
