Sharon Margaret Smith, 84, of Beloit, Kansas, departed this life August 3, 2024.
She was the first-born to parents, Urban and Lillian Slater, on September 25, 1939, in Lebanon, Kansas. Sharon was the cherished sister of David Slater, Brenda Slater, and Mike Slater as well as chosen sister of Bonnie Boxum. She was not a fan of creepy crawlers, and as a child became adept at climbing trees as her younger brother, David, would chase her with various bugs and critters. She was always close with her sister, Brenda, talking daily until her passing. She attended school in Downs, Kansas.
A hard worker her entire life, Sharon provided for her family in every way she could. That was with kindness and knowing how to make everyone feel important. She was an outstanding cook and made the best cinnamon rolls, just like her mom. Many of her recipes were handed down to her kids and grandkids, long to be enjoyed in her memory. She was also a member of the Rose Valley Methodist Church, a community she was extremely fond of.
Sharon is survived by six children she raised as a strong, exemplary mother: Sarah Smith of Beloit, Frank (Michele) Smith of Andover, Becky (Rick) Koster of Beloit, Cheryl (Mark) Marzolf of Glen Elder, Frances (Tony) Milholland of Glasco, and Mae Smith of Russell. She adored being a grandmother to nine grandchildren: Ashley Smith, Becky (Justin) Zwaschka, Ty (Corey) Smith, Derrick Koster (Rhiannon Taylor), Brady (Jill) Marzolf, Chase Marzolf, Tyler Milholland, Trever (Brittney) Milholland, and Megan (Lucas) Nease. Sharon also leaves behind nine precious great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, David (Linda) Slater of Colorado, and sisters, Brenda Slater and Bonnie Boxum, both of Beloit. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mike; and grandson, Tyler.
Memorial services will be at 11 AM Saturday, August 31, at the Beloit Methodist Church.
Visitation with family will be from 5 PM to 7 PM Friday, August 30, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be given to the Summer Kids Cafe or Solomon Valley Hospice.
Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
