MITCHELL COUNTY COMMISSIONERS - Tuesday, September 3, 2024

By Terry Bailey

The Mitchell County Commissioners conducted their weekly meeting at the Courthouse on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. The meeting was held on Tuesday due to the fact that Monday was the National Labor Day holiday. All Commissioners and the County Clerk were present.
The meeting began with a 20-minute executive session to discuss Courthouse security. Those in the meeting were Commissioners Jim Marshall, Tom Claussen, and Mike Cooper. Additionally, the County Clerk Heather Weston was included as well as Jeff Roberg. Terrance Silvia, and Jesse Bliss. No decisions were made as a result of that closed session.
Commissioner Jim Marshall made a motion to secure the services of Kobe W. Hayes to update the antiquated security camera software. This will effect the cameras at the Law Enforcement Center, the Courthouse and the Dispatch building. The cost of this upgrade and licensing fees will be a total of $51,609.
The next action was another executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. No decisions were made as a result of that closed meeting.
Tom Claussen, Chairperson of the Commission, read a letter from the County's auditors, Lindberg, Vogel, Pierce, Ferris Chartered. This is a yearly report stating their opinion before the actual audit is totally completed. In this letter it stated that "they had no knowledge of any non-compliance." This was viewed as very good news.
Claussen also read from a letter the County has received from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. This was a compliance report stating the permit to Alan and Gordon File had a clean bill of health on their feedlot.
Having addressed all the items on the printed agenda, the meeting was adjourned.
