Everett Linton, 95

Everett Lee Linton of Glen Elder, the last survivor of a family of eight children, was born to Vincent Kenneth and Alta Lily (Hoard) Linton on August 7, 1929 in rural Randall, Kansas, and passed away on September 9, 2024 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 95.
Everett lived in Beloit, and attended grade school there until the 5th grade. He started working at Pagetts fruit and vegetable store for two years. This is where he met Claude and Dave Hendricks of Glen Elder. He moved in with Claude and Dave at the age of 10, living southwest of Glen Elder. He attended Excelsior Rural Elementary School and graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1949. He farmed with Claude and Dave until 1953.
He married Carol Loomis on June 16, 1951. Marcia, Greg and Carla were born to this union. They moved to Beloit in 1952, where he was employed at the Gambles Store, then the family moved to Salina, where he worked in the Gambles Store. In 1961, the family moved to Sharon Springs, where they purchased the Gambles Store there.
In 1969, Everett married Barbara (Penn) Linton, at which time he gained a stepson, Kevin Stover. Barbara passed away in 1972.
Everett married Virginia (Cabollo) Linton in 1973, gaining two stepsons, Gary and Jim Cox, and a stepdaughter, Terri Wineinger. Everett moved to Glen Elder in 1980. He helped Greg on the farm, and his brother, Virgel in Arkansas for many years. Family and friends were very important to him, and he cherished his time with each and every one.
Everett also worked at Sunflower Manufacturing for three years, and drove the school bus for eight years. He retired in 1999.
Everett liked to fish, and thoroughly enjoyed his weekend fishing trips. There were a few years spent with his brother Virgel and family, which were extra special, and made for some wonderful memories, of which he spoke quite often. He was active in Jaycees and Rotary, enjoying his civic organizations. He spent many hours watching sports of all kinds, and liked keeping all his friends informed of the outcome of the games.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Don, Gerald (Dade), Virgel, Alfred, and infant Duane; his sisters, Maxine Fansler and Marjorie Schreuder; as well as his stepson, Gary Cox; and his grandson-in-law, Tim Hall.
Survivors include his son, Greg Linton of Cawker City; daughters, Marcia Linton and Carla McPeak (Marty), both of Glen Elder; stepson, Kevin Stover (Denise) of Concordia; stepdaughter-in-law, Belinda Cox of Wallace; stepdaughter, Terri Wineinger; stepson, Jim Cox; 10 grandkids; 23 great-grandkids; three great-great-grandsons and three step-grandsons. Special friends include Joanne Pottberg and Karin McDanield of Topeka and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday, September 11, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home in Beloit followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder.
Visitation will be from 2 PM to 7 PM, with family present from 5 PM to 6 PM Tuesday, September 10, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.
