Delores Regina Brummer went to be with her Heavenly Father on the Lord's Day, Sunday, September 29, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital at the age of 93 years. Delores was born May 20, 1931, on the family farm southwest of Tipton, Kansas. She was the second of nine children born to John and Katherine (Gasper) Schroeder. Delores attended Holy Corner Grade School during her elementary years and then attended and graduated from Tipton High School. On June 10, 1953, Delores was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Wendell John Brummer of Tipton. They were honored to celebrate 71 wedding anniversaries (which is no small feat). To this union five children were born: Dave, Ron, Jim, Darla and Gina along with their three grandchildren, Kyle Alflen, Matthew Brummer and Hannah (Jacob) Younger.
Delores was a retired homemaker. Throughout her long and blessed life there was no rest for the weary. She was a tireless worker from working the family farm to raising her children, cooking, baking, and canning. She also waitressed, cleaned houses, ironed and whatever else she could do to help provide for her family. She managed to find time to volunteer at the Downs Agape Shop along with local and county elections. She loved her family unconditionally and cherished the special connection she and her sisters had. Delores especially enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and playing and winning at BINGO! And, of course, let us not forget the Saturday night dance escapades along with her love of polka music.
Delores had a very generous heart and kind soul to anyone who had the pleasure to get to know her. Her faith never wavered and was very inspiring and uplifting. She was a devout member of the St Mary's Catholic Church in Downs, and an active participant in the St Mary's Altar Society until her health began to deteriorate.
Delores is survived by her husband, Wendell of the home; sons, David and Ronald of Downs, James (Chris) of Hutchinson; daughters, Darla (Richard) Alflen of Downs and Gina Brummer of Burleson, Texas; along with her three grandchildren and her soon to be first great-grandchild! She is also survived by her two kind and loving sisters, Eleanor Pahls and Carolyn Schmitt, along with her brother-in-law, Richard Schmitt.
Preceding her in death are her parents, John and Katherine Schroeder; two infant sisters, Catherine Marie and Dorothy Ann; brother, Clarence Schroeder; sisters, Laurine Schmitt, Stella Mans, Betty Palen; and brothers-in-law, Bill Ellenz and Ralph Schmitt, Bill Mans, Merwyn Pahls and Virgil Palen.
Vigil Rosary services will be on Thursday, October 3, at 7 pm and visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm until the Rosary service begins at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Downs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am on Friday, October 4, at the church. Interment will follow at Downs Cemetery.
All are welcome to lunch in the Church basement coordinated by St. Mary's Altar Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Schoen Funeral and Monuments. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St Mary's Altar Society.
