Jean grew up on the family farm in Smithfield, Nebraska. She graduated from Elwood High School in 1953. After high school she moved to Denver, Colorado and worked at a bank.

Jean's greatest love was her family. She delighted in sewing and quilting. Many personalized quilts were gifted to her family over the years. She liked to play cards with her friends and enjoyed reading, as well. She always looked forward to all of the holidays. She loved having the family there and would have her house decorated meticulously for each and every holiday. She especially loved Christmas and had a huge collection of Santa Claus and Snowmen decorations.
She was devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasco.
