Everett Schoen, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on December 6, 2024, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas. He was born on December 19, 1936, in Smith County, Kansas, to John and Anna Schoen. Everett was an exemplary individual who touched the lives of many with his kindness and good humor.
In his early years, Everett excelled in multiple sports during his time at Downs High School, from which he graduated in 1954. He furthered his education at Fort Hays College, earning a business degree that paved the way for a successful career. For several years, he worked as an auditor for Phillips 66, before returning to his true passion - farming - in the mid-1970s. Farming the land and raising animals was always dear to his heart.
Everett's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he honorably served in the National Guard. His involvement with the Zion Lutheran Church in Downs, Kansas, was particularly important to him, where he held several offices and actively contributed to the church's mission.
His personality was characterized by kindness and consideration towards all he met. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved hearing a good joke. Everett loved collecting model cars, trucks, farm equipment, and Christmas villages. Additionally, he was a passionate supporter of K-State sports and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs play. Those who knew him will fondly remember his legendary love for fried chicken (EFC) and ice cream.
Everett is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Schoen; his son, Mark Schoen; stepson, William Valliant; stepdaughter, Patricia Gabel; brother, Ken Schoen; grandchildren, John W. Gabel, Brandon L. Gabel, Lisa Godfrey, Ashley R. Brummert, Sarah L. Gill and Billy Valliant; along with ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Schoen; his brothers, Richard and Marvin Schoen; and his sister, Vera Niermeier.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Everett's life during a visitation with his family on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church located at 1019 Blunt Street, Downs, Kansas. Interment will follow at South Oak Creek Cemetery.
