Dewayne Edward Kalivoda, the son of Edward George Kalivoda and Helen Rose (Rytych) Kalivoda, was born April 3, 1944 in Belleville, Kansas, and passed away on January 9, 2025 at the Hilltop Lodge Health & Rehabilitation Center at the age of 80 years.
Dewayne grew up on the family farm near Cuba, Kansas, attending school in Cuba, graduating from Cuba High School in 1962. He then attended Beloit Vo-Tech where he majored in carpentry. Following his schooling, he worked for Bob Didde Electric where he did wiring and carpentry work.
Dewayne served with the U.S. Army from May 13, 1968 until his honorable discharge on October 9, 1969. He later reenlisted with the Army Air National Guard. He served with the Army and National Guard for 23 years combined.
Dewayne worked for the Kansas State Highway Department for two years and then began employment at the Belleville Meat Locker where he was a butcher for 35 years until his retirement.
From his first marriage Bradley and Carolina were born.
On August 16, 1980 he was united in marriage to Sharon (Woods) Moravek and her children, Joanne, Cindy and Nancy, joined the family.
Dewayne was a lifetime member of the Cuba American Legion William Fleming Post #345, Cuba, Kansas, serving as Commander for several years. He also was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge in Munden, Republic County Farm Bureau, and the Republic County Farmer's Union. He also assisted with the Republic County Commodities. He enjoyed taking care of his Black Angus Whiteface and Hereford cattle.
Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Kalivoda, and his wife Sharon in 2016.
He is survived by his children, Brad (Delorie) Kalivoda of Narka, Kansas, and Carolina Weltner of Wichita, Kansas; stepchildren, Joanne (Joey) Welch of Wellington, Kansas, Cindy (Lynn) Moon of Burlingame, Kansas, and Nancy (Craig) Clark of Beloit, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation was selected and Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas, with Kathleen Marsicek officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, Kansas, with Military Graveside Rites by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard, Ft. Riley, Kansas, and Cuba American Legion Post #345, Cuba, Kansas.
The family will greet friends from 5 PM until 7 PM on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Cuba American Legion Post #345 or Solomon Valley Hospice, Beloit, Kansas.
