Vaughn Leon Stafford, 87, of Formoso, KS, left this world on November 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of the family he cared so deeply for. Vaughn was born on September 28, 1938, in Formoso, Kansas, to Harry Stafford and Edna (Rominger) Stafford-Engle. He grew up right there in the town he always called home, alongside his brother Gary. Those early years shaped so much of who he became-steady, hardworking, and endlessly devoted to the people around him.
After graduating from Formoso High School, Vaughn started out at the local Chrysler dealership. When those doors closed, he found his place with the Jewell County Highway Department, where he spent 42 years building friendships, working hard, and taking pride in what he did every day. On May 31, 1970, Vaughn married Elaine Badger - the love of his life and his partner in all things. Together, they raised four children: Ginny, Chantel, Cameron, and Chyla. To his family, Vaughn was a constant source of strength, comfort, and guidance. He didn't just show up - he showed up with his whole heart. Vaughn was happiest with a project in front of him and people he loved nearby. He had a gift for working on vehicles - mechanic work, body work, restoration - he could bring things back to life with his hands. Fishing trips, graduations, birthdays, and any excuse to gather as a family were moments he treasured. He had a laugh that filled a room and a way of telling stories about his younger days that made everyone lean in and smile. Those stories, and that laugh, will echo in the hearts of the people who loved him.
Vaughn leaves behind his children; five grandchildren- Seth, Noah, Joshua, Kailen, and Keira; and one great-grandson, Oliver. He also leaves nieces who held him close. Vaughn is reunited with his wife Elaine, brother Gary, and his parents.
A celebration of life will be held on November 22, 2025 at 1 PM at the Formoso City Fire Hall, where friends and family can come together to remember a man who meant so much too so many. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to be designated at a later date in Vaughn's memory. The family also hopes that those who knew him will honor him in simple ways he would've loved - showing kindness, sharing a good story, or spending time with the people who matter most. Kroll-Massey Funeral Home in Hebron in charge of arrangements. Online condolences at kroll-masseyfh.com.
