Joyce Ann Giese, 79

Joyce Ann Giese, 79, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Smith Center Health and Rehab.

Joyce was born on June 28, 1946, the daughter of Herman and Margaret (Dohe) Giese. She was born on the family farmstead north of Gaylord, Kansas, where her father was born.

After graduating from High School at Gaylord, in 1964, Joyce worked as a waitress and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and went to IBM key punch school. She then got a job working at Phoenix K-Mart. When Hastings, Nebraska, put in a K-Mart, Joyce transferred there. She enjoyed her work there for many years until she retired. She spent many weekends coming down to her mother's to mow the lawn and help her with other jobs around the house. When Margaret finally needed full-time help, Joyce had her mother moved to Hastings to live with her.

In June of 2024, Joyce moved to an apartment in Smith Center, Kansas, to be closer to her family. The family was very happy about the move and wished it had taken place much sooner.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Margaret Giese, brother Myron Giese, brother and his wife Robert and Nadine Giese, sisters Marilyn McKenzie and Carol Wolf, and brothers-in-law Dean Seems and Howard Stephens.

Joyce is survived by her two sisters, Dorothy Seems of Smith Center, Lorena Stephens of Kensington; brother-in-law Jim Wolf of Virginia, nieces and nephews, Bruce Seems of Gaylord, Karen Loyd (Gary Haws) of Winfield, Brenda (Steve) Cochran of Winfield, Kelly McKenzie of Smith Center, Kim (Kevin) Hawkins Baetz of Smith Center, Jan (Tony) Henry of Salina, Jay (Penny) McKenzie of Smith Center, Tamara (Andy) Lane and Troy Wolf all of Virginia, David (Daylah) Stephens and Dale Stephens all of Kensington, and several great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

There will not be a public visitation. Burial will take place in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Gaylord, KS. Memorials may be given to the Smith County Ministerial Association and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
