Cheryl Ruth Bonin, the daughter of Ira and Ruth (Culp) Baker, was born on February 4, 1952 in Fairbury, Nebraska. She passed away on February 26, 2026 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 74 years and 22 days.
Cheryl attended school in Lincoln and Harvard, graduating from Harvard High School.
She married Raymond Bonin on January 2, 1977 at Geneva, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children Robert, Crystal and Leanna.
Raymond and Cheryl purchased an acreage in Thayer County in 1993. They raised their children, pigs, cows, sheep, goats and had a USDA Kennel for several years. The kennel was a combined effort between them. He wanted the hunting dogs and she wanted Old English Sheepdogs. They got both. Cheryl also was employed as a nurse aide at the Nursing Home for several years. When retirement came the move was made to Nelson. After retiring, she enjoyed being able to spend more time fishing, gardening, & spending time with her family & friends. Since August of 2025, she underwent a total of 3 brain surgeries. She worked incredibly hard and proved us all wrong that she would walk again, and she did just that! For safety purposes, per her choice, she entered the Parkview Nursing Home on December 17, 2025, where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond on October 18, 2022; and a still born sister.
Survivors include her son Robert (Angie) of Plymouth, Nebraska, daughters Crystal (Cody) Wyatt of Superior, Nebraska and Leanna (Adam) Cotton of Red Cloud, Nebraska; three grandchildren Cooper Bonin, and Lily and Cady Wyatt; her brother Ira, Jr. (Audrey) Baker of Sutton, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. from Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior, Nebraska with Royce Schott officiating.
