Betty Louise Befort, 82, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at her home in Lebanon, KS.
Betty was born on December 21, 1943, at the Ingleboro Hospital in Smith Center KS, the daughter of Frank and Lavona (Manchester) Emery. Her parents put her under the Christmas Tree since she was born so close to Christmas and was one of the best gifts they could have received. She was the youngest of 5 children, she attended Chalk Mound School through the 5th grade, then started school in Lebanon thereafter.
During high school, Betty was the Homecoming Queen in her senior year. Later in school, Betty met the love of her life, Joe Befort. Betty and Joe were married on August 10, 1963, and moved to the farm where they raised their family and spent 62 years together.
Betty and Joe became parents of Bryan in 1964, Dan in 1967, AJ in 1970 and Scott in 1975. She was the consummate wife, mother and homemaker. Betty worked as a nurse's aide for 15 years, bringing the same energy and attention to detail to her work as she did to running her household, retiring in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lavona Emery, and a brother Dean Emery.
Betty is survived by her husband Joe of the home; four sons, Bryan (Janeen) Befort of Lebanon, Dan (Melissa) Befort of Longview, TX, AJ (Angie) Befort of Cedar and Scott (Penny) Befort of Deshler, NE; two sisters, Alice French of Osborne, Phyllis Miller of Grand Island, NE; a brother Howard Emery of Mount Vernon, TX. Betty adored her six grandchildren, Dustin Befort, Dayton Kessler (Dale), Hayden Befort, Grayson Befort, Blake Befort and Stella Befort and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Liam Befort.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026, at North Oak Creek Cemetery, Lebanon, KS, with Father's Charles Oppong and Daryl Olmstead officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS. Memorials may be given to the Betty L. Befort Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
