Darrell Lee Chancellor, 74, Concordia, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 in Belleville, Kansas. He was born August 29, 1951 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Warren and Bessie (Klaumann) Chancellor.
He graduated from Clyde High School. After graduation, he entered the Air Force. He served for close to eight years, in Biloxi, MS, Azores Islands, and at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita.
After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Clyde and went to work on the farm for Jim and Margaret Nobert for several years. He got a job as a welder at Northern Natural Gas in Clifton. He later transferred with NNG to Victoria, TX and Waterloo, IA, where he retired after 20 years. He had a reputation as being a top pipeline welder. His greatest welding achievement was that he never failed an x-ray test or had to do any repairs or redo his welding.
After retiring, Darrell moved to Concordia. Loving the outdoors and the farm, he went to work for Fred Detrixhe. When Fred retired, he went to work and helped his son-in-law, Mark Popelka, on their farm.
He married Shirley Lewis and to this union, they were blessed with three children: Michelle, Jason, and Bradley. They later divorced. He married Sylvia Harmon Odette in 1989.
As mentioned, Darrell loved the outdoors. He was work oriented. His passions were fishing and trapping. He started trapping as a young boy. Anyone who wanted to learn about trapping or ask his opinion or advice, he was eager to help them. In previous years he was an avid pool player and played on pool leagues. He liked gardening and keeping his yard up.
He loved his family and extended family.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy Lambert, sister and brother-in-law Betty Jean and Henry Kujath, brother Ray Chancellor, step-son Chad Odette, and niece Pam Kujath.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; brother Mike Chancellor of Lenexa, KS; brother-in-law Pat (Joyce) Lambert of Clyde, KS; children Michelle (Mark) Popelka of Belleville, KS; Jason Chancellor of Beloit; Bradley (Kelly) Chancellor of San Diego, CA; step sons, Tony Odette of Miltonvale, Todd (Susan) Odette of Belfair, WA, Paul (Julie) Odette of Lakeville, MN, and Seth (Christine) Odette of Salina, KS; Grandchildren, Ashley Popelka, Kimberly Popelka, Caylen Chancellor, Bryce (Aubrey) Black, Brayden Black, Jackson (Alexis) Odette, Tyler Odette, Dylan Odette, and Jack Odette; great grandchildren, Jensen Black and Brooks Black; nephews and nieces, Ray (Jaina) Lambert, Sean (Kim) Lambert, Dawn (Nick) St. Peter, and Pat (Diane) Kujath.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Pastor David Redmond officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Clyde, KS. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the OCCK Alzheimer's Program and can be sent in care of Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, P.O.
