Nancy Katherine Brummer, 79

Nancy Katherine Brummer passed away peacefully at her long-time home in Downs, Kansas on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 79 years of age.

Nancy was born June 25, 1947, in Osborne, Kansas and grew up on her parent's farm in rural Osborne County, Kansas. She graduated in 1965 from Downs High School in Downs, Kansas. Shortly after graduating she began working at the State Bank of Downs in the position of Bookkeeper. She worked for the State Bank for 47 years, retiring in 2013. She loved her bookkeeping work and engaging with the community she served at the bank.

She is survived by her brothers Jerry Brummer of Osborne, KS, Richard Brummer of Redding, California, James Brummer of Salina, Kansas, her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Shannon Brewer of Hutchinson, KS as well as nieces Daisy Brummer of Providence, Rhode Island, Rowan Brummer of Redding, California and nephew Teige Brewer of Nashville, Tennessee.

Nancy was known as a quiet and kind person. She was fiercely independent and deeply loved her family, her home, and her pets. To use the words of William Shakespeare, though she was but little, she was fierce. Nancy will be deeply missed and will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 pm., Monday, August 3, at Schoen Funeral Home & Monuments in Downs. Rosary services will follow beginning at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 4 at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Church in Osborne. Interment will follow at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kansas Humane Society.
