Joan Louise Holmberg, 93

Joan Louise Holmberg was born in Concordia, KS on December 26, 1930, and died on August 4, 2026 at Belleville Health Care, Belleville, KS.

Joan grew up knowing the value of hard work, family, and community. She was born to Joe and Louise Trecek and was raised on the family farm a mile south of Cuba, Kansas. Alongside her brother, Bob, Joan learned early the dedication and resilience that would shape the rest of her life.

Joan attended White Country School south of Cuba through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Cuba High School. On November 27, 1948, she married Delwin D. Holmberg of Wayne, Kansas. A year later, they welcomed their son, Jeff, beginning a life centered on family and shared purpose.

Joan and Del worked side by side throughout their lives to provide a good home and strong foundation for their family. Joan's work ethic showed in every role she held - from waitressing at the Kravemore Café, to working at the Belleville City Office, and spending many years with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1959, Joan and Del built and operated Del's A & W Drive-In in Belleville, a place fondly remembered by many. In 1978, they moved to Salina to continue their careers. After retiring in 1987, they returned to Cuba, happy to be "back home."

Following Del's passing in 1992, Joan remained in Cuba, where she stayed active and connected in the community she loved.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Del; her parents, Joe and Louise Trecek; her brother, Bob Trecek; and her daughter-in-law, Glenda Holmberg.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Holmberg and his wife, Kristie; her granddaughter, Kimberly Holmberg; her grandson, Joe Holmberg and his wife, Kadi, and their sons, Landon and Luke, all of Lincoln, Nebraska. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Glennis Trecek, of Belleville; nephew Troy Trecek; nieces Tammy Bruns, Marilyn Gallagher, Lora Lee Walker, and Cheryl Luttrell; and cousins Jim Trecek, Tom Trecek, Bill Trecek, and Steve Benyshek.

Joan will be remembered for her steady strength, her devotion to family, and her deep roots in the community she was always proud to call home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Cuba Presbyterian Church, Cuba, Kansas, with Kathleen Marsicek, officiating. Interment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Wayne, Kansas.

A luncheon will follow the committal services at the Church.

Viewing and visitation will be from 1 PM until 7 PM, Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS. The family will not be present at the visitation on Friday.
