Gerald Lee Thompson, the son of Archibald M. and Bernice R. (Jones) Thompson was born March 5, 1936 in Belleville, Kansas and passed away August 30, 2026 at Marquis Place in Concordia, Kansas at the age of 90.
Gerald attended Manning Grade School through 8th grade before graduating from Agenda Rural High School with the Class of 1954. He later attended Kansas State University for one year before taking an auto mechanics course in Kansas City, Missouri. He also attended several semesters at Kansas Wesleyan University.
Throughout Gerald's life, he worked in the oil fields in Sterling, CO. He was also a mechanic for Thompson Motors and Lewis Motors for a time, both in Belleville. In 1968, Gerald moved back to Agenda to farm on the family farm with his father Arch and later Gerald's son Brian joined the family farm. They farmed together till Gerald's retirement.
On July 11, 1959, Gerald married Grace Ann Baxa and the couple were blessed with three children, Julie, Lisa, and Brian.
Gerald was an active part of his community throughout his life serving on the Agenda Cemetery Board as Treasurer and Secretary, the Hillcrest School Board, RCD Loan Committee, Member of the Agenda United Methodist Church, Agenda Rural Fire Department and the Agenda Saddle Club.
A lover of the outdoors, Gerald enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, skiing and was always up for a good road trip. He will also be remembered for his extra special hugs he'd give his grandkids and great grandkids.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Bernice Thompson, brother, Tommy Thompson, sister and brother-in-law Betty (Russell) Annis, and brother-in-law William Gants.
He is survived by his wife Grace Ann Thompson of Concordia, KS, daughters Julie (Rick) Kesler of Aurora, KS and Lisa (David) Holloway of Narka, KS, son Brian (Tammy) Thompson of Agenda, KS, sister Bernice Ritch of Plain, WA. Eight grandchildren, Krystal (Casey) Richard, Kade (Sarah) Kolman, Kara (Rusty) Morehead, Sarah (Nick) Lehman, Tyler (Britta) Kolman, Wesley Thompson, Taylor (Landon) Davis, and Tanner Thompson. Sixteen great-grandchildren, Boone and Case Richard, Broden, Kaydre, and Sawyer Kolman, Gus, Clancy, and Lilibeth Morehead, McKennon, Briscoe, Pistol, and Granger Lehman, Damon and Kelan Haberstroh and Ainsley and Memphis Kolman, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 10:30am at the Agenda United Methodist Church, Agenda, KS with Pastor Amos McCarthy and Father Joseph Kieffer officiating. Interment will follow at the Agenda Cemetery.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 1:00-7:00pm at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00pm
Memorials are suggested to the Agenda United Methodist Church, Agenda Cemetery, or Agenda Rural Fire Department.
