Nancy Jo (Gaskill) Huggins, 87

Nancy Jo (Gaskill) Huggins peacefully entered her heavenly home on September 11, 2026, at the age of 87. Nancy was born in Beloit, KS, on October 14, 1938, to Ross and Thelma (Flinn) Gaskill, the middle child of seven. Her life revolved around her faith, family, and friends.

Nancy lived in Beloit almost her entire life. After graduating from Beloit High School in 1956, she moved to Salina, KS, for a year where she worked as a telephone operator and then for the Salina Journal.

She was soon engaged to Wayne Huggins, her high school sweetheart, and she moved back to Beloit. Wayne and Nancy were married on November 17, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church, and they walked this journey of life together for almost 69 years.

Nancy worked for the Beloit Daily Call until she and Wayne were blessed with three daughters. Nancy spent her daughters’ growing up years creating a fun, loving home. She enjoyed helping her girls with their activities and attending all their events, and performances. In her spare time you could find Nancy sewing, reading, crafting, cooking for others, camping with Wayne and the girls, or meeting her sisters for a pop!

Nancy was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. Her faith was very important to her, and she enjoyed being a part of her church community. She was involved with the Lutheran Women’s Circle, doing bible study and service projects for many years, and in later years, she used her sewing skills to make blankets and diapers for Lutheran World Relief alongside this group. She also participated in many community service events as a member of the Delphian Club, and played Bunco once a month with her Bunco friends.

Once her daughters were all in school, Nancy began working at Beloit Elementary School. Her love for kids and children’s books first drew her to work in the school library, and later she worked as a secretary in the front office. She retired in 1998 after 26 years.

As her daughters grew up and got married, she gained three sons-in-law whom she truly enjoyed. Over the years her grandkids became her focus! She and Wayne made many trips to Kansas City and Grapevine, TX, to attend their activities. Nancy loved hearing what the grandkids were up to and she was always ready to do anything she could to help. She also enjoyed planning and hosting family gatherings—getting everyone together for anything and especially for holidays was very meaningful to her.

Nancy fought a battle with breast cancer in 2009 and won that battle, giving her 17 more years to enjoy life.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Huggins of Beloit; three daughters, Deborah (Jim) Calvert of Olathe, KS, Susan (Bill) Tasker of Grapevine, TX, and Barbara (Marshall) Kolb of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren, Curtis (Corrie) Calvert of Goddard, KS, Melissa (Isaac) Bari of Prairie Village, KS, Mitchell (Jacklyn) Tasker of Wylie, TX, Rachael (Isaac) Phillips of Overland Park, KS, Heather (Mitchell) Brumley of Olathe, KS, and Anna Kolb of Salina, KS. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, Oliver, Norah, and Ellis Calvert; Iris Phillips; Emersyn Bari; Jamison Brumley; and one more due to arrive in February 2027, Elliott Tasker. She is also survived by her sister Linda (Gale) Scott of Topeka, KS; brother Rodger (Karen) Gaskill of McKinney, TX; sister-in-law Shirley Plymire of Topeka, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Thelma Gaskill; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Dorothy Gaskill; brother Eddie Gaskill; sister Mary and brother-in-law Carlyle Saint; sister and brother-in-law Donna and Ivan Long; in-laws Millard and Grace Huggins, and brother-in-law Lee Plymire.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 16 at the Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2-7 PM, with family present from 5-6 PM Tuesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church, Solomon Valley Hospice, or Resident Care Center.
