Betty spent her childhood years on the family farm. She attended Atwell 107 Rural School and graduated from Beloit High School in the Class of 1944. She began working for the City of Beloit after graduation. She also worked at the Wichers Color Corporation in Beloit.
She married George H. Bergmann on November 11, 1947. To this union were born five sons and three daughters.
Betty was a devoted wife and mother. She took immense pride in raising her children and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite things was taking a camper to the lake and having a grandchild on her lap and a fishing pole in her hand. Some affectionately called her "Grandma Chickie" because there were always a few chickens in the backyard. Sunday worship and family dinners brought her abundant joy and were a significant aspect of her life.
She was a member of the St. John's Ladies Guild, St John the Baptist Catholic Church Choir, and the VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George H Bergmann; daughter, Patricia Waltman; daughter-in-law, Sarah Bergmann; her parents; two brothers, John Murray Jr. and Larry Murray; three sisters Louise Saine, Vivian Krone, and Joan Hilvers.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her five sons, Richard Bergmann and wife Eileen of Salina, Bill Bergmann and wife Madonna of Simpson, Paul Bergmann and wife Nancy of Cawker City, Dennis Bergmann and wife Annie of Concordia, Donnie Bergmann and his wife Pat of Beloit; two daughters, Michele Coffman and husband Byron of Winfield, Marlene Giebler and husband Blake of Clever, Mo.; one sister, Pauline Brummer and husband Jerry of Beloit; 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren with two enroute; many nieces, nephews; one sister-in-law, Margaret Hageman Overland Park, Kan. Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
